This year’s budget continues our investments in our library system. We have expanded our space at Discoveries: The Library at the Mall, one of our most popular branches. We are funding the creation of a new library in Millersville that will be part of a YMCA facility. We are also designing a new, modern Glen Burnie Library and renovating our Brooklyn Park Library. At the core of it all, we continue to champion the power of education that our libraries provide daily. Here in Anne Arundel County, we understand how crucial our libraries are. Because we’ve been working hard to protect our communities and are willing to invest in the things that improve our lives, we have earned triple-A bond ratings from all three credit rating agencies for the third year in a row. This is proof that our responsible budgeting is paying off. With that, I hope you’ll visit one of our libraries soon and see all the amazing things they offer. A whole world of possibilities awaits you, one page at a time.
Scan to view how this year’s budget invests in the future of Anne Arundel County.

New Monument at Crofton Library Honors Enslaved People and Local History
The Housemaid by Freida McFadden Thursday, August 14 at 2 pm
A new monument has been constructed near the entrance of the Crofton Library,
Walks, now a historic monument which dates back to 1672; and Middle Plantation, originally patented to Mareen Duvall in the 1660s. These properties relied on enslaved labor to thrive. “This monument helps highlight our local history while also memorializing the enslaved people who made these farms and plantations successful,” said Crofton Library Branch Manager Rachael Troianos Halbig. “It is an acknowledgment of the enslaved people who may not have been previously highlighted in history.” By placing this monument at the Crofton Library, it invites community members to learn, reflect and honor the lives of those who helped build the area.

Plans Underway for a New Glen Burnie Library Community Shares Vision for Modern, Inclusive Space at February Meeting Excitement is growing as plans move forward for a brand-new, state-of-the-art Glen Burnie Library. At a well-attended community meeting on February 27, library and project team staff gathered valuable input from residents about the future of the library. Over 1,000 people responded through surveys and participation in the event. The new library, which will be built on the site of the current Glen Burnie Library, will be a 40,000-square-foot modern community hub that includes a dedicated cultural resource center. During the meeting, community members had the opportunity to share ideas for the new library. Residents voiced a strong interest in a range of features, including an outdoor reading garden, work/study rooms, a community kitchen, flexible event spaces, a makerspace and a recording studio. These ideas reflect a clear vision for the project: create a dynamic, inclusive and accessible space that serves everyone. As one community member shared, the strength of the Glen Burnie community lies in its “diversity, inclusion and the acceptance of people’s differences.”The new library will embody these values and be a place where all belong. As plans move ahead, Anne Arundel County Public Library remains committed to incorporating the community’s feedback every step of the way. Stay up to date by visiting the library’s website at: aacpl.net/newglenburnie .
