mckinley and kennedymet inmiddle school at Mountain State Baptist Church on a Wednesday night, but they did not become close friends until the spring of 2019. The couple often enjoyed God’s creation through hiking and exploring the outdoors. A little over one year later, McKinley asked Kennedy for her hand in marriage at the summit of McAfee Knob on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. The wedding details were constantly influenced by the many changes in rules and recommendations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, six months later, Kennedy and McKinley finally had a scrumptious Puerto Rican meal for their rehearsal dinner, a preview of the cuisine that they would enjoy during their honeymoon in Puerto Rico. The Vault on Main hosted the evening and provided a wonderful location for wedding morning preparations. Upon arrival at the Summersville Arena and Conference Center, where the ceremony and reception would take place, guests entered an elegant space decorated with classic colors of black, white, and a touch of burgundy. At the end of the aisle was a large wooden cross that symbolized the foundation of Kennedy and McKinley’s marriage. Kennedy was escorted down the aisle by her father to meet her soon-to-be husband, lives tied together by Pastor Mark Secrist. The reception included a wonderful pasta dinner topped off with cookie cake. The newlyweds exited the venue just after sunset through a tunnel with sparklers arranged by their guests. After a tropical honeymoon, they began their life together in a townhouse that they now call home in Oak Hill. They have since returned to their professional roles, Kennedy as a science teacher at Midland Trail High School and McKinley as a payroll accountant at the Fayette County Board of Education.
