a cage nearby, human skulls served as holders for the flickering candles, while an unclad woman lying on a leopard skin on the mantel fur nished the “altar.” Bells rang, gongs sounded, a sword and a chalice ap peared in the act, while the “ or dained minister of the Sa tan i c Church,” dressed in a black “ Satan” costume, topped by a cap adorned with the usual horns, chanted Black Arts formulae and prayed to the devil. The couple dedicated them s lves to the worship of Satan and unrestrained commission of the “ sev en deadly sins.” Although to some people this may seem an early celebration of Hal lowe’en, it cannot be dismissed with a laugh by the children of God. In the first place, the whole “ show” was truly Satanic, and no doubt the enemy of the souls of men was back of it. In the second place, it was wicked, an appalling travesty on the God-ordained institution of holy wedlock. We who believe in a per sonal devil are more familiar with him in his guise as “ an angel of light” rather than this “ roaring lion” performance. It may be that our age has become so blatant and open in its sinfulness that in the future Satan will show his evil face

more plainly than hitherto, when there was more respect for God, the home and marriage. We know from the Word of God that some day in the brief Tribulation period the wor ship of Satan will become universal (Rev. 13:4, 11, 12) but, thank God, the glorious day will come when the devil will be cast into the lake of fire, no longer to deceive and cor rupt mankind (Rev. 20:10)! Gospel has not penetrated, although occasionally we hear of the diaboli cal doings of the witches and war- locks in Britain and of other Satan- worshipping bodies in Europe. So it came to .us with a shock to see front page newspaper coverage, with scare headlines, of the “wedding” (with out benefit of license) of a couple of Satan-worshippers in San Francisco on February first. Radio and televi sion, as well as the press, gave the outrageous event wide publicity which of course is what was de sired. Shamelessly “hammed up” for such publicity, the bizarre setting was in a house of “ the first priest of the Satanic Church.” Black-paint ed walls were decorated with stuffed wild animals, a real lion snarled in
