Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) offers a wide scope of support and leisure services worldwide providing Sailors (active, reserve and retired) and their families with the finest facilities, programs, and activities to meet their recreational and social needs. Navy Region Mid-Atlantic MWR executes special events such as the annual NAS Oceana Air Show, and provides single Sailor programs, state-of-the-art fitness facilities, community and recreation options, child and youth programs, bowling centers, golf courses, and quick service restaurants, to name a few. 2024 NAS Oceana Air Show

The 2024 NAS Oceana Air Show is scheduled for September 20-22 and once again, IT WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! The entire team is eager to open our doors and welcome aboard visitors from near and far to this Master Jet Base for what has been described as the military’s best Air Show.

The world famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be returning to NAS Oceana with thrilling jet team demonstrations in their F/A-18 Super Hornets. We will also have the F/A-18 Super Hornet Tactical Demonstration, the USAF F-22 Raptor Tactical Demonstration, and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CF- 18 Demonstration Team. You can expect to see our signature Air Power Demonstration with Fleet Flyby, performances by local Navy squadrons, and world-class civilian performers.

NAS Oceana Air Show &

The NAS Oceana Air Show has forged a ground-breaking partnership with area schools and local educational entities to create a one-of-a-kind Outdoor Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics “STEM” Laboratory on an unprecedented scale. A dedicated partnership between NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS), and Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS) has brought approximately 6,300 fifth graders annually from 64 elementary schools to engage with the STEM Lab on Friday prior to Air Show weekend. More than 30,500 students have experienced STEM engagement since 2016. The outdoor STEM Lab provides immersive STEM experiences with developmentally- appropriate, hands-on activities that engage and inspire students for possible careers in STEM. With small group engagements preferred, both school divisions commit to a 5:1 student/chaperone ratio to enable full participation in the activities and challenges offered by STEM professionals and volunteer organizations. The STEM Lab remains in place on Saturday and Sunday, making STEM education and engagement available to the hundreds of thousands of families, children and community members that attend the Air Show. Seventy-five percent of attending students have no military affiliation even though their daily lives may experience the sound of jet noise over their schools or homes. By inviting school children onto NAS Oceana, students are offered a glimpse of the Navy behind the fence line and the incredible opportunities that exist within – providing students with exposure to new possibilities.

Significant partnerships, across multiple STEM disciplines, support this event to include post-secondary institutions, state organizations, and military commands, as well as local and national industry leaders. Data from 2023 indicates that more than 202 Department of the Navy personnel (uniformed and civilian), 98 informal educators, and 200 high school students provided approximately 2,024 engagement hours across 182 hands-on STEM opportunities. In 2024, we look forward to expanding these opportunities to students from additional local municipalities.
