Kinesio Taping KINESIO TAPING (KT) is a therapeutic tool that has become increasingly popular within the sporting arena. Taping has been used for a long time for the prevention and treatment of sporting injuries. KT is not only used for sporting injuries but for a variety of other conditions. KT is applied to the affected joint area while the joint is stretched out, as KT has an elastic quality that allows it to stay attached. KT works by “lifting the skin,” which enables lymphs to drain, thereby reducing pain and inflammation and increasing blood flow. For more information about Kinesio Taping and how it could benefit you, call Johnson PT at 970.564.0311. During physical therapy, the main goal is to maximize functional mobility. Patients will be given exercises to strengthen muscles around the arthritic joint and reduce pressure over arthritic areas. Patients will be educated on proper alignment and posture with activities of daily living. If a patient has undergone surgery, post-op physical therapy can help them reclaim their mobility—as well as their lifestyle.
