CEOs of the Industry (Volume 1)

Late last summer, we rolled out the CEOs of the Industry series. We’ve interviewed six CEOs to date. Why did CEVA choose to support and partner with the CEOs of the Industry podcast? It’s really about telling the stories of the leaders of our industry, the challenges in front of them, and their perspectives for the future. All of those play a role in securing the global protein supply chain. So for us, it’s a privilege to partner with you and with them to shed some light on the resilience and the commitment that each of these leaders has to make an impact and to do what is right for the pig, for the land and the communities around them. What are the biggest challenges facing the swine industry today from your perspective? And, you know, layering down that question a little bit, how is CEVA working to address these challenges through innovation and leadership, specifically? There are many challenges in front of pork producers worldwide, Jim: quantity and quality of labor at the farm level; environmental and sustainability considerations; animal welfare, well understood and guided by science; emerging and re-emerging diseases; evolving regulatory landscape; technology, AI, and real-time data management as transformation factors… and we could name more. If I must choose one, it would be health, prevention of disease, and facilitating that animals grow free of sickness and welfare constraints. In Ceva we understand our role as more than a supplier, and we will continue running our race to become a strategic partner for global pork producers. Cris, what advice would you give to emerging leaders in the swine industry? Don’t let your education or success prevent you from staying a lifelong learner. As an industry and as individuals, we all advance to higher degrees of academic specialization, bigger and better career accomplishments. My invitation is to stay humble and hungry, to learn daily, to reach out beyond the immediate scope of action, to push ourselves to learn from different regions, different ways of doing things, and find our own truth and our own approach in the middle of all this information. Daring to succeed beyond the accolades of the past and being okay with either winning or learning. Those would be my two cents, Jim.

AN INTERVIEW WITH CRIS GUTIÉRREZ JARAMIS I’m excited to have you on today to talk about the project. As a key partner in this series, CEVA plays a crucial role in driving leadership discussions within the swine industry. So to start, Cris, can you share a bit about your background and career journey? Growing up in Chile, my family has been involved in agriculture and livestock for generations. Over the last two decades, I have explored the global protein landscape across North and South America, Asia, and Europe. In terms of the journey to CEVA, this is the company where I see the most tangible commitment to livestock and the biggest opportunity to make a difference for swine farming. I joined a year ago with the mission to lead the swine organization forward and to take an already winning team to new heights. What excites you most about your role as VP of CEVA Swine Franchise? For example: your key responsibilities, what do you oversee, and how does your leadership shape the company’s direction in swine health? What excites me most is the opportunity in front of us. In Ceva we are a key contributor to positive interactions among the environment, animals, and people, through our OneHealth commitment. From our leadership team to the frontline in the field, we wake up daily to make a difference and secure sustainable farming. When you work in pork production, it’s not a job, it’s a mission. We don’t take for granted the preference of veterinarians and farmers worldwide, we operate with clarity of purpose and with a sense of urgency to help our customers thrive. As head of the swine franchise, I am at the service of the global organization across all functions to connect the build-up and execution of our value proposition, from early development of new solutions to operations and field feedback. Next to a team of experts who are the heartbeat of the species within the organization, we elevate the voice of the farmer, the regulators, the vets, and the insight from the pigs to guide our decision-making.
