C an you imagine 95 years! There are so few organizations that last this long that we must be doing it right. For instance, my company has been in business for 70 years, and we have spent the last 60 years as a member of this association, with me running the business for the past 44 years. Being part of the OEL allows me to stay invested in the industry’s challenges. Today, members look to OEL for guidance and information. Our membership is engaged and informed, to help set them up for success as an electrical contractor, and as a business. So many things have changed at the OEL! The association has become more focused on contractors and speaks out more often when government organizations create unfair rules and regulations. We have become a force in the electrical industry and OEL’s influence will only grow in the future. For the past three years, I’ve had the honour of serving our electrical members and the OEL as the Chairman of the Board. There are so many things I had hoped to accomplish in my three- year term but those years just seemed to pass by too quickly. The people I have met, and the contractors that I have worked with, and have grown to know, are extraordinary people. In May, I will be swearing in the new Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dale MacDonald. Look for that announcement closer to our conference. I will reflect the experiences I’ve had while chairing this Board. I look forward to working closely with the new Chair, and I know he’ll lead and represent the industry well. I’m honoured to have served in this capacity for such a great organization, and I look forward to continuing the conversation and supporting our fellow members by staying involved in all levels of the Ontario Electrical League.
W elcome to the 95th Anniversary of the Ontario Electrical League and our first digital production of Dialogue. 2017 promises to be an exciting year for the OEL. Be sure to attend the Electrical Industry Conference from May 3 to 6, 2017. We have put together a program that reflects the significant history of the OEL and its members. We also continue to look forward and will demonstrate some of the new technologies being implemented in the industry today. “I would like to remind all of our members about the extensive suite of Member Benefits that have been obtained to help our members be the most competitive in the marketplace.” This year we will also be hosting the Chapter Leaders Conference at the Glen House Resort in the scenic Thousand Islands. Both current and future Chapter Leaders should plan to attend this event that only occurs every two years. Meet your colleagues from around the Province to share in new ideas, best practices and knowledge sharing. This is an event not to be missed for our leaders. I would like to remind all of our members about the extensive suite of Member Benefits that have been obtained to help our members be the most competitive in the marketplace. I would like to wish all of our members a happy and prosperous 2017.
