Three main factors affect the balance of body temperature: climate conditions, the heat the body radiates, and the thermal insulation of the clothes. The CLO system describes the level of thermal insulation that each garment provides by taking into account the warmth levels of different materials. It is determined based on the amount of clothing needed to maintain the comfort level of a person while standing in 21 o C, with 50% humidity and air flow 1 m/s. with 50% humidity. This amount of clothing is equal to ClO 1, but in fact, the measurement starts from 0 and refers to a completely naked person. From here, wearing underwear is equal to CLO 0.15, inner layer - CLO 0.5, middle layer - CLO 1.1.
