She is the real angler in the family gregg.chamberlain@eap.on.ca Clarence Point year-old Rockland girl said, about why she enjoys the winter sport. “I want to be good like him.”

The Bandits will most like be gunnin’ for the Panthers after Embrun robbed Cumberland of its first-place lead in the National Capital Junior Hockey League midway through the season. Cumberland finished second overall in the standings as the regular season schedule closed over the Family Day long weekend. That includes a 7-1 skinning of the Vankleek Hill Cougars Saturday night. The first-round playoffs list for the NCJHL has the first-place Panthers matched with newcomer club the North Dundas Rockets, who finished eighth overall. The Bandits get another shot at the Cougars who are seventh overall for the season. Third-place St-Isidore Eagles fly against sixth-place Gatineau Express, and the Predators from La Pêche hold the fourth-place spot against fifth-place Rockland Nationals. The Bandits and Cougars open their first-round schedule Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m., at the Ray Friel Recreation Centre in Cumber- land then go at it again Sunday evening at the Vankleek Hill Arena. Competition con- tinues Monday night in Cumberland. In the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League the Casselman Vikings are three and zero on Alexandria in the opening playoffs round of the St. Lawrence Divi- sion. If Alexandria holds off the Vikings in the Feb. 21 game at the Glengarry Sports Palace then the series will continue Thursday night in Cumberland at the J.R. Brisson Sports Complex. Otherwise the Vikings get to rest while waiting for the other teams to finish their series. Bandits ride into second in NCJ league vision@eap.on.ca Cumberland

She’s very lucky.” Father and daughter were out on the ice in the inlet between Clarence Island and the ferry dry dock along the Ottawa River soon after the annual derby began at 6 a.m. Feb. 18. Three-quarters of an hour later, something yanked on Allyson’s rig and its live-minnow bait. On the other end of the line was a walleye, weighing in at just over five pounds. “I thought it would be easy,” the cham- pion young angler said about the fight to haul in her morning’s catch. “But it was heavywhenItriedtopullitout.Mydadhad to help me.” Allyson’s fish was a regular topic of comment among dozens of other anglers in the derby as they watched their rigs and hoped for the same kind of luck.

Allyson Dion has a dream. To be the best ice fisherman, or girl, ever, just like her dad. “I wanted to ice fish like him,” the nine-
