Starting flowering plants indoors in February is a great way to get a head start on the growing season. We found five flowering plants that thrive when started indoors.

PETUNIAS These vibrant annuals come in a variety of colours and are perfect for containers or garden beds. • Start seeds indoors 10–12 weeks before the last frost. Provide bright light and keep the soil consistently moist. MARIGOLDS Easy to grow and pest-resistant, marigolds are a favourite for their bright orange and yellow blooms. • Sow seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Use well-draining soil and a sunny window or grow light. ZINNIAS Known for their bold colours and long blooming period, zinnias are a garden favourite. • Start seeds 4–6 weeks before the last frost in small pots, then transplant them outdoors after the risk of frost has passed. SNAPDRAGONS These cool-weather favourites add height and charm to flower beds. • Begin seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost. Provide plenty of light and transplant them outdoors in early spring. COSMOS With their delicate, daisy-like flowers, cosmos are perfect for filling garden beds with cheerful blooms. • Start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost, and plant them outside once the soil has warmed.
