A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11
Last Thursday, ‘The Globe Players’ theatre group performed for all of the English GCSE students to support their English Literature studies and bring the plays they are studying to life. Year 10s watched ‘An Inspector Calls’ by J.B Priestley and Year 11s watched either Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ or ‘Macbeth’. Students commented on how useful it was to see the whole play without interruption to help them understand the structure of the play and the character arcs. The actors also added a commentary on the context of the plays which help students grasp the ideas and perspectives of the writers. Last Friday was BBC’s Children in Need Day. Students and staff got into the spirit by taking part in our non-uniform fundraiser event to raise money for this very worthy cause. It was such a delight seeing everyone’s enthusiasm towards this event, many students and staff looked ‘spotacular’ as they wore spots in line with this year’s theme. Some forms even went the extra mile by hosting mini cake sales within tutor time! This day was a great way to raise money and it proved a huge success as we can reveal the current amount raised at the time of writing is an incredible £1413! We have had our school production of Annie take place 4 nights in a row this week, which many Year 11 students took part in, whether they had a main lead role or were working behind the scenes on the props and music. I was so impressed with the talent and dedication exhibited from all of the students and the production was absolutely superb! It was so lovely to see students really throwing themselves into the life of the school and it was clear that they had all worked exceptionally hard to pull off such a slick and entertaining performance. They should all be very proud of themselves! Well done to our Under 16 Basketball team who participated in a tournament on Wednesday. They faced some tough competition, playing against the likes of Grey Court and Twickenham. Nevertheless, our team powered through with great team work and dedication, landing themselves in 2nd place!

Tender is the night - F.Scott Fitzgerald
“I want to give a really BAD party. I mean it. I want to give a party where there’s a brawl and seductions and people going home with their feelings hurt and women passed out in the cabinet de toilette. You wait and see.” Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a classic novel set in the 1920s in the French Riviera. Like his more famous novel, The Great Gatsby, it follows the lives of the elite as they strive for influence and power in a changing world. If you want a challenging but rewarding read, I highly recommend this book and Fitzgerald’s other works.
