ous body at the last day . . . This is salvation I He who cleaves to sin is not yet saved.— B is h o p J . C. R y l e . Praise God that atonement fo r your sin has been provided in Christ. Pray es pecially fo r the members o f the Latin American Evangelisation Campaign, who give the message o f redemption to a benighted people. MARCH 6 The Power of Christ’s Name “ Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatso ever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you" (John 16:23). That name is ours to use. That is the Master’s great legacy, left us as He was going away—the privilege, the right to use that great name “Jesus.” . . . In the midst o f temptations, that name brings help and power and deliverance. In the thick of attacks, that name leads to swift, sure vic tory. In the face of opportunities whose very greatness may stagger us, that won drous name means divine power coming into us, and going out through us. It is the one great name before which the en emy must go, and in the power o f which swift, sweet victory will come af'every turn.—S. D. G o rdo n . Oh, that name we love to hear, “ The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us . . . full o f grace and truth” (John 1 :14). Christ is the one and only hope of our sin-cursed and distracted world. He only can forgive our sins, remove our guilt, and give to us the power o f an endless life. He only can keep our burdens from crushing us, can penetrate our problems with the light of His countenance, can give to us a deep settled peace in our souls, and the joy which is “unspeak able and full of glory.” Scrap all your substitutes for salvation, flee all subter fuges, and come to His cross, pleading only your urgent need, and He will not fail you.—W . G r a h a m S croggie . Pray that men’s eyes may be opened to see that Christ is the only hope o f the world, and that every man-made scheme must fail. MARCH 8 The Altogether Lovely One “ The chiefest among ten thousand” (Cant. 5:10). If there were ten thousand, thousand millions o f worlds, and as many heavens, full of men and angels, Christ would not be pinched to supply all our wants, and to fill us all. Christ is a , well of life ; but who knoweth how deep it is to the bottom? . . . Welcome, welcome, Jesus, in what way soever Thou comest, if we can but get a sight of Thee. And sure I am that it is better to be sick, providing that Christ come to the bedside, and draw aside the curtains, and say, “ Courage! I am thy salvation,” than to enjoy lusty health, and never to be visited by God. — S a m u e l R u th e r f o r d . Pray for all who suffer physically, that their eyes may be opened to see Christ. Name above all others dear! How it calms our every fear! Blessed, blessed Jesus ! — F a n n y C r o sb y . Pray that caste-bound men and women in India may be given courage to identify themselves with Christ. MARCH 7 The Hope of the World

MARCH 1 Wonderful— to Us “His name shall be called Wonderful” (Isa. 9 :6). How wonderful is Jesus! He brought life to us—a life o f grace, a life of com fort, a life o f glory—-but we brought death to Him. He brought glory to us, but we brought shame on H im ; He brought riches to us, but we brought poverty to Him; He brought joy to us, but we brought sorrow to Him, sorrow upon sor row. We put the crown of thorns upon His head; He puts the crown of glory upon our heads . . . God the Father gave Him—to us, who were not His friends, but His enemies—to us, who were not sons, but slaves—to us, who were not an gels but men—to us, who loved not God, but hated Him. Oh, have we not cause to bless God for Jesus Christ? Oh, what a gift is Jesus Christ ¡— W il l ia m D y e r . Pray for blessing upon the work of the American Tract Society, and upon all printed matter that presents a wonderful Saviour to a sinful world. Ask God to make you a distributor o f such literature. Oh, Jesus! Thy power, Thy grace, Thy justice, Thy tenderness, Thy truth, Thy majesty, and Thine immutability make up such a man, or rather such a God-Man, as neither heaven nor earth hath seen else where. . . . As all the colors blend into one resplendent rainbow, so all the glories of heaven and earth meet in Thee. . . . Thou hast been anointed with the holy oil of myrrh and cassia, which Thy God hath reserved for Thee alone; and as for Thy fragrance, it is as the holy perfume, the like of which none other can ever mingle; each spice is fragrant, but the compound is divine. Oh, sacred symmetry! Oh, rare connection O f many perfects, to make one perfec tion! Oh, heavenly music, where all parts do meet In one sweet strain, to make one perfect sweet. — C h a r l e s H a d d o n S p u r g e o n . Pray that Christ may be seen in you. MARCH 3 Indescribable “ Grace is poured into thy lips” (Psa. 45:2). Is there anything in all literature to be compared with the words of Jesus? The Lord never wrote, so far as we know, a single line except the unrecorded sentence that He wrote in the sand one day; and yet His speech has gone out into all the world and His words to the end o f the world. Where shall we find such marvels of liter ary beauty, conciseness, and truth, as His matchless parables? Where shall we find such immortal rules of holy conduct as the Sermon on the Mount? What can be MARCH 2 Perfection in Christ “In him dwelleth all the fulness o f the Godhead bodily . * And ye are complete in him" (Col. 2:9, 10).
compared with the music of His promises which speak to the ear of even the coldest literary mind with an unearthly melody ? —A. B . S im p s o n . Pray that your own daily speech may become more and more like that o f the Master. Pray also that Bible translators may be divinely led in the selection o f words which will convey to heathen minds the wonders o f the Lord Jesus Christ. MARCH 4 Rejoicing in an Abiding Christ “ Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart o f them rejoice that seek the Lord” (Psa. 105:3). The believer’s Saviour is a wonderful Saviour! . . . Christ was wonderful in His sufferings. He did not only suffer in His body, but also in His soul ; and that is what makes the wonder the greater. He drank the cup o f affliction, that we might drink the cup of consolation; He tasted death for us, that we might taste life through Him; He was forsaken, that we might never be forsaken. — W il l ia m D y e r . Pray that the comfort o f the Holy Spirit may be granted to young Christians, espe cially those from Jewish homes, who have been forsaken by their families because of. their testimony for Jesus Christ. MARCH 5 Sin-Bearer "I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no Saviour" (Isa. 43:11). The name o f Jesus means Saviour. It is given to our Lord because He saves His people from their sins. This is His special office. He saves them from the guilt of sin, by washing them in His own atoning blood. He saves them from the dominion of sin, by putting into their hearts the sanctifying Spirit. He saves them from the presence o f sin when He takes them out o f this world to rest with Him. He will save them from all the consequences o f sin when He shall give them a glori- Helpful Gift Booklets The readings for March 1 to 21, in clusive, are excerpts from B.
