A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER
KEY SCHOOL DATES
This week Waldegrave has been full of song and dance as our Performing Arts production of Annie The Musical took place. It was wonderful to see so many students involved in the shows throughout the week, with the two lead casts alternating to give as many students as possible the chance to take to the stage. It is wonderful to see our students have this opportunity to

develop their talents, whether on stage or behind the scenes, as well as forging new friendships. I am sure after the weeks of rehearsals and excitement of the performances all the cast and crew will need to rest this weekend. Today students from the Environment Committee of our Student Parliament Year 7 to Year 12 are presenting at an Eco Conference at Holy Cross School in Kingston. The conference provides a forum for our students to talk about environmental issues that matter to them, as well as educate and empower them on how to take immediate action in creating a positive impact on the environment. As well as taking part in workshops and learning from other student groups, they will hear from climate experts who will be sharing their knowledge and insights on a range of topics including nature and conservation, a diet for the future, climate justice and eco anxiety. The annual PTA Christmas Tree sale is being held next Saturday 2 December, further details can be found here. We are also holding a Pre-loved Uniform Sale at the same time. Please come along and support the school either by donating unwanted uniform items or purchasing uniform and Christmas trees.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, better known as White Ribbon Day. This is the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, ending on 10 December, which is Human Rights Day. Part of this is the White Ribbon Campaign, which encourages men to make a promise never to use, excuse or keep silent about violence against women and girls. Richmond Council have made this film Don’t Pass Her By to encourage residents to take action to support women and girls who feel they are in vulnerable situations. A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
Being at secondary school provides a wealth of opportunities for our students to try a broad range of clubs and activities. This week we have been delighted to see Year 7 students performing in the school production of Annie and have continued to see some beautiful cakes being produced in the Year 7 Bake Off qualifying events. There has long been a Waldegrave catchphrase about the importance of ‘throwing yourself into the life of the school’ and our Year 7 students are certainly doing this! Last Friday was BBC’s Children in Need Day. Students and staff got into the spirit by taking part in our non-uniform fundraiser event to raise money for this very worthy cause. It was such a delight seeing everyone’s enthusiasm towards this event, many students and staff looked ‘spotacular’ as they wore spots in line with this year’s theme. Some forms even went the extra mile by hosting mini cake sales within tutor time! This day was a great way to raise money and it proved a huge success as we can reveal the current amount raised at the time of writing is an incredible £1413! Thank you to everyone who took part in the event and made donations - this wouldn’t have been possible without your support. Our JustGiving donations page will remain open and can be viewed here.
The end is in sight for this term’s house point competition and the top three performers this week were 7EST, 7FFR and 7PUN. Remember that students can use their house points to gain prizes via the epraise website.
Year 7 students are invited to unleash their creativity in our upcoming Lindt Christmas Competition. Students can work in pairs to design a brand new product for the Lindt chocolate company. The task involves creating an idea for a new product and explaining some points behind the idea (details are on each form group’s Google Classroom). Students can design the packaging and/or make a model of their product. Mr Parker and myself will whittle the entrants down to a handful of finalists before inviting representatives of Lindt to pick a winner. The main aim is to have some fun and be creative and I look forward to seeing the ideas that our Year 7 students propose!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Impossible Creatures - Katherine Rundell
If you enjoy Katherine Rundell’s The Wolf Wilder , then I highly recommend her newest book. A gripping fantasy novel, Rundell takes readers into the magical Archipelago, where mythical creatures exist but are under threat. Two children discover their hidden talents and their bravery is tested as they quest to save the source of the magic, on which all the creatures depend.
