NORTHERN IRELAND FIRE & RESCUE SERVICE HAS INVESTED £50M IN A NEW LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT COLLEGE FEATURING ONE-OF-A-KIND FACILITIES ON THE ISLAND OF IRELAND…
A challenging project, incorporating a diverse range of mechanical, electrical and renewable energy services, has been successfully delivered by Vaughan Engineering Services Limited at the new NI Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Learning & Development College. A first phase of the investment saw a Tactical Firefighting Facility, Training Support Building and road infrastructure completed in 2019, followed by a second phase commencing in April 2023 with the facility handed over in October 2024. The extensive campus includes a main academic building featuring nine classrooms, workstations, an assembly hall, kitchen, dining, gym and changing facilities to
Flood Water Training Facility for flood and river rescue simulates a streaming river into which cars can be situated for rescue training. The campus also includes a lake for boat work and diving practice and Search and Rescue Training Area providing a training environment for collapsed buildings and below-ground rescue. A Simulated Industrial and Chemical Training Area, meanwhile, covers hazardous materials training, with the campus also featuring a Motorway & Embankment area and network of A and B-category roads for specialist road traffic collision rescue training. Developed on BIM, the challenging project required a high level of coordination with main contractor Felix O’Hare & Co Ltd and a wide range of MEP sub-contractors.
