KEY SCHOOL DATES

This week Waldegrave has been full of song and dance as our Performing Arts production of Annie The Musical took place. It was wonderful to see so many students involved in the shows throughout the week, with the two lead casts alternating to give as many students as possible the chance to take to the stage. It is wonderful to see our students have this opportunity to

develop their talents, whether on stage or behind the scenes, as well as forging new friendships. I am sure after the weeks of rehearsals and excitement of the performances all the cast and crew will need to rest this weekend. Today students from the Environment Committee of our Student Parliament Year 7 to Year 12 are presenting at an Eco Conference at Holy Cross School in Kingston. The conference provides a forum for our students to talk about environmental issues that matter to them, as well as educate and empower them on how to take immediate action in creating a positive impact on the environment. As well as taking part in workshops and learning from other student groups, they will hear from climate experts who will be sharing their knowledge and insights on a range of topics including nature and conservation, a diet for the future, climate justice and eco anxiety. The annual PTA Christmas Tree sale is being held next Saturday 2 December, further details can be found here. We are also holding a Pre-loved Uniform Sale at the same time. Please come along and support the school either by donating unwanted uniform items or purchasing uniform and Christmas trees.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

It has been another busy week at Waldegrave with lots going on both in and outside of lessons. We have had our school production of Annie take place 4 nights in a row this week, which many Year 9 students took part in. I was so impressed with the talent and dedication exhibited from all of the students and the production was absolutely superb! It was so lovely to see students really throwing themselves into the life of the school and it was clear that they had all worked exceptionally hard to pull off such a slick and entertaining performance. They should all be very proud of themselves! Last Friday was BBC’s Children in Need Day. Students and staff got into the spirit by taking part in our non-uniform fundraiser event to raise money for this very worthy cause. It was such a delight seeing everyone’s enthusiasm towards this event, many students and staff looked ‘spotacular’ as they wore spots in line with this year’s theme. Some forms even went the extra mile by hosting mini cake sales within tutor time! This day was a great way to raise money and it proved a huge success as we can reveal the current amount raised at the time of writing is an incredible £1413! Thank you to everyone who took part in the event and made donations - this wouldn’t have been possible without your support. Our JustGiving donations page will remain open and can be viewed here. Congratulations to 9EPA for coming first in the epraise leaderboard this week. They are closely followed by 9EJO in second place and 9PFO in third. Well done! Well done to our Year 9 Netball team who participated in a tournament on Tuesday. They faced some tough competition but remained resilient demonstrating great team work. The team won their game against Turing House and lost the other two, finising in 3rd place. Congratulations to Mia N who was awarded player of the tournament! As the weather gets colder, more students are bringing in coats to wear outside. Please can you ensure that all clothes have name labels on them, as it is very easy for these to be misplaced. Our Year 9 Parents evening is also coming up very shortly on Wednesday 6 December. This will be a chance for you to talk to your students’ subject teachers about how their school experience is going.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Once, Now, Then, After... - Morris Gleitzman “Everybody deserves to have something good in their life at least once.” The seven book series by Morris Gleitzman is a gripping read surrounding the story of a young Jewish boy during World War Two. He is determined to run away from his orphanage and save his parents from the Nazis. I loved this series because it is very emotional and intriguing. You grow to connect to the characters on a personal level and develop a deeper understanding of what people went through during the war. ~ Recommended by Yasemin A, Year 11 student

SIXTH FORM CHARITY MUSIC CONCERT Year 13 student Emily M is hosting a Live Music Concert on Friday 1 December for the charity MusicForAll, supporting underprivileged children in pursuing their musical education. There will also be a raffle with the chance to win various prizes, and refreshments will be available during the interval. In addition, we will be hosting a silent auction which sees some fantastic items up for grabs, including a signed electric guitar by Take That as well as a De’Longhi ‘La Specialista Maestro’ machine!

Tickets are available here, we hope to see you there!
