is hidden in the world today, without a national ~home, submerged among the nations. But Jesus has sold every thing for the redemption of His chosen people. One day He shall see of the travail of His soul and be satisfied. 2. "One pearl of great price" (v. 46). As the treasure pictures Israel, so the pearl of great price pictures the church. Christ sought the church and bought it with His precious blood. Furthermore, the pearl is like the church in (1) its manner of formation, that is, through suffering. It is formed in the oyster through some irritation brought to bear upon it. The fhurch was born out of the broken side of Christ. It is like the church in (2) its unity. The pearl is one. It has no seg ments or divisions. It is of like struc ture and substance throughout. In Christ the church is one body (cf. 1. Cor. 12:13). The pearl is like the church in (3) its beauty. It is fit to be worn in the crown oi-#. king. Think of the beauty of the bride of Christ as she is pictured in Ephesians 5:25-27: "Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the wash ing of water by the word, that- he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.'’ - 3. “Send the multitude away" (Matt. 14:15). This is the language of weak and helpless man. It is the language of every false religion in the woild. It is not the language of the om nipotent Christ. He never sends any needy soul away unhelped. He bids the multitudes to come to Him for help and satisfaction. His followers who have His presence with them need not send the hungry away un satisfied. They have the Bread of Life to distribute. 4. "Bring them hither to me" (v. 18). The little lunch of five loaves and two small fishes wasn’t much to bring to the Creator of heaven and earth. But it was all the lad had and it was enough. When any child of God is willing to present his all to Christ, it will be enough, no matter how small it may seem. Only eternity will reveal what the Son of God can do with the little handfuls we may bring to Him. Put them into His hands and watch them grow! LESSON STORY: Jesus had had a very busy day, and He must have been tired. Besides, one of His best friends had just died (14:1-12), and He probably felt lonely without him. If Jesus had been selfish, thinking only of Himself, He could have said, “ I must forget about all the people who are crowding around Me to be helped, and I must go away some where and rest.” But He did not say that. He did go “ by ship into a desert place” where it was quiet, but the people “followed him” (v. 13). And Jesus thought more about the people who needed Him than He did about how He felt Himself. Because He loved them so much, He talked to them kindly and "healed their sick” (v. 14). Because there, were so many, this took a long time. When if was suppertime, there was no food to be seen. The disciples asked Jesus to send the people away, so they could buy food somewhere. But Jesus said, “They need not depart; give ye them to eat” (v. 16). He wanted His disciples to think about other people’s needs, just as He did. But the friends of Jesus did not know what He meant.
