And I am captain of my soul , Only if He beside me stands. He alone knows the quiet lanes Through which my little bark must steer; The rocks and shoals to me unknown, To that keen eye are plain and clear. Wild blasts upon my vessel*sweep, From my weak grasp the wheel would tear, I feel beside my hands His hands, Master of sky and sea and air. I can not plot my onward way: He holds all things in His control; Jesus, the Master of my fate, Pilot and Captain of my soul. —Selected. 28. * The Sword Unsheathed “The sword of the Spirit, which is ‘the Word of God” (Eph. 6:17). The Christian is a soldier who, with God-given strength, must advance to meet the foe, invading Satan’s terri tory and taking new ground for the heavenly Commander. The enemies— sin, self, and Satan—can'be conquered by an intelligent use of the Word of God. Formidable foes, of whatever proportions, will become mere filmy phantoms as the sharp, two-edged

lifted the veil from the unseen God, and has begotten us again unto a living hope of an inheritance incor ruptible. He is God’s offered gift to everyone. —Missionary Workers' Herald. The Secret of Prayer “Continue in prayer” (Col. 4:2). The great people of the earth today are the people who take time and pray. They have not time. It must be taken from something else. This something else is important, but less important and less pressing than prayer. There are people who put prayer first, and group the other items in life’s schedule around and after it. These are the people who are doing the most for God; in winning souls; in solving problems; in awakening churches; in supplying both men and money for mission posts, and in keep ing fresh and strong these lives far off in sacrificial service on the for, eign field.—S. D. Gordon. 27. My Master Pilot “He led them on safely” (Psa. 78:53). I am not the master of my fate; That lies in wiser, abler hands; 26.

may turn the machinery of your powerless life unless you adjust the sails to that wind, and surrender your life to Him. But as you do your .part of adjustment, the winds of God will turn your life and His power will be manifested in your work and witness. Let us go to our work counting on His perpetual and continual indwell-- ing. When every barrier has been cast down, God will come in and take possession of His temple, your body. May God give us grace to accept of His fullness.—Earnshaw Smith. God's Supreme Gift “Thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save His people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21). To think ! of our failures, moral lapses, willful choices, our best am bitions mainly matched hy disap pointments, our highest hopes never realized, our noblest aspirations far beyond possible achievements, our affections always severed by death— that thinking paints into our picture the true colors of human life had God’s gift of His Son never been made to the world. Christ is for us a ransom from past sin’s guilt, and thé way of deliver ance from present besetment. He has 25.
