ENGLISH LANGUAGE GCSE

Venue: South Downs Campus Duration: 1 year

Overview The course is aimed at anybody who wants to gain a GCSE qualification in English Language. When employers or colleges require a pass in GCSE English they usually mean a grade 4 or above. Consequently, all students will be entered for the examinations at the end of the course. Students will work with texts across a range of forms, such as letters, articles, speeches and leaflets. Texts range across fiction and non-fiction from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Structure: – Paper One Fiction Paper (50% of final mark) – final exam in the summer term. – Paper Two Non-fiction Paper (50% of final mark) – final exam in the summer term. – Speaking and Listening Assessment – in-class assessment taken during the course. Assessment: Your work is assessed individually in tutorial sessions, group discussion and formally by component submissions. Final assessments are moderated by the exam board. Progression: A grade 4 in GCSE English is invaluable to many employers. Students may also wish to continue on to another college course that may require a pass at GCSE English. Entry Requirements: This course is for any student with a strong interest in English language. It is essential that you can achieve a required level of reading for meaning, spelling, grammar and punctuation. These are examined before entry onto the course.

Any Student who has achieved a grade 3 in this GCSE will be required to take this course alongside their qualification.
