THEATRICAL & MEDIA HAIR & MAKE-UP ARTISTRY Level 2 Diploma Venue: South Downs Campus Duration: 1 year Overview As a hair and makeup artist, learners could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include: – Theatre, film, print media, photographic studios – Beauty and/or hair salons – Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings – National Health Service – Product manufacturing and training Upon completion of this course learners will also be able to further their knowledge and skills by completing a specialist qualification at Level 3 in one or more of the following areas: – Theatrical and media makeup – Hairdressing Structure This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units, which include: – Health, safety and hygiene – Makeup applications – Hair preparation services – Continuity planning for makeup services – Dress and finish hair services – Continuity hair services – Anatomy and physiology for makeup artists – Total look for competition work

Teaching & learning You will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, and health and safety. You will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to plan for and provide makeup applications, hair preparation services, fashion and editorial makeup and face and body painting. You will develop your abilities to ensure that continuity services are adhered to for makeup application as well as hair services, which in turn will ensure you meet the strict criteria needed to produce a total look for competition work. In parallel, you will develop your communication and customer service skills, your awareness of environmental sustainability and your commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving, team-working and research skills will also be developed. You will be required to participate in two weeks of work experience whilst studying on this course. Assessment You will be required to take two exams, these are externally set and externally marked examinations. Throughout the course you will undergo externally set practical assessments. Then as a final assessment to gain your qualification you will undergo a practical synoptic. This is externally set and internally marked and counts towards your final grade. Progression You can progress onto the Theatrical & Media Hair and Makeup Artistry VTCT Level 3 Diploma. In addition, you could gain employment in the field of theatre/media makeup. Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at grade 3 including English Language and Mathematics.

Throughout this qualification, you will have three practical makeup skills workshops and one practical hair workshop. In order to gain underpinning knowledge, there are also two hours of theory, one hour of tutorial and one hour of portfolio building, where you will be able to set yourselves targets and keep on
