Progression Successful completion of the course will gain you UCAS points to progress to university. Possible degree routes could include criminology, psychology, law and sociology. Alternatively, the qualification allows learners to gain the required understanding and skills to be able to consider employment or Apprenticeships within the criminal justice system, for example, the National Probation Service, the Courts and Tribunals Service or the National Offender Management Service. Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Mathematics.

Overview This is a unique course that offers you the opportunity to study a full time programme in Law, Psychology and Criminology. By choosing to study this course you will develop an understanding of why people commit crime, whether nature or nurture influences people’s choices, what happens during a criminal investigation and the processes involved when a person has been arrested and taken to court. You will have the opportunity to visit law courts and engage with professionals from the criminal justice system. Throughout the course you will also develop skills that are highly valued by employers and universities. Structure This course can be studied over a one-year period to gain a qualification equivalent to one and half A Levels, or over two years to gain a qualification equivalent to three A Levels. Year 1 – Investigating aspects of criminal law – Psychological approaches and applications – Changing awareness of crime Year 2 – Applying the law of murder and property offences – Criminal and forensic psychology – Crime scene to courtroom Assessment The course will be assessed through a mixture of internally set and assessed assignments and externally set assignments completed in examination conditions.
