Assessment The theory elements are assessed online through multi-choice tests. There is also a series of practical assignments and the completion of a portfolio of evidence. All practical tasks are demonstrated; you will practise the task and when the assessor feels you are competent, you will be assessed unsupervised. Progression With the approval of the course manager, you may progress to the Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Systems Maintenance or seek employment. Entry Requirements
Overview On this course you will develop a good working knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance. You will study the basics of car mechanics including lubrication systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, braking systems, fuel systems, spark ignition systems, transmission systems and steering and suspension systems. All practical elements will be taught in our fully equipped automotive workshops with theory taught in the classroom. In addition, you will be expected to study English and Mathematics Functional Skills courses. During the year you’ll have opportunities to attend trips, take part in team-building activities and listen to guest speakers from the automotive industry. Structure On this course you will study: – Vehicle lubrication systems – Engine cooling systems – Vehicle fuel and exhaust systems – Vehicle spark and ignition systems – Vehicle electrical systems – Transmission systems – Vehicle wheels and tyres – The principles of vehicle body and interior cleaning – Vehicle suspension – Vehicle brakes – Bench handskills
Two GCSEs at grade 2 or above in Mathematics and English Language.
