TRAVEL – TRAIN PASSES The College has negotiated specially reduced priced train passes with South Western Railway. Students or parent/carers can apply for a train pass from the College and pay us directly. For households in receipt of an income based benefit, the college will deduct the equivalent cost of a bus pass directly from the termly cost of a train pass. There may be a contribution to pay towards a train pass. All train passes can be collected from the Student Travel & Support Office. 16-17 RAILCARD The Department of Transport has released a Railcard for 16 and 17-year-olds, the 16-17 Saver. A 16-17 Saver offers 50% off most rail fares every day of the year with no time restrictions and no minimum fare. The Railcard costs £30 and is valid for one year or until the student’s 18th birthday, whichever comes first. HSDC understand that some passes may still be cheaper if purchased through the College but would advise all students and parent/ carers to investigate the 16-17 Saver before purchasing a college train pass. We have confidential counselling rooms within our Welfare Department and also a prayer room on-site, available for all students no matter what their beliefs or faith. This room offers space for prayers, reflection and guidance, either individually or in small groups. Find out more from the Student Hub. We also have a First Aid room, providing a safe space and support for students with medical needs. HSDC Havant & South Downs provides a travel and financial support scheme to help our students reach their full potential. The College works closely with Stagecoach, First Bus and South Western Railway to provide discounted travel tickets to all students. The Student Travel & Support team can – Childcare Financial Assistance Scheme TRAVEL – BUS PASSES All students are eligible to purchase an online discounted student bus pass through the First Bus mTicket App or the Stagecoach website (regardless of household income). An additional travel subsidy may be available towards these bus passes for full time students (excluding Higher Education students). If you are eligible for this extra support, the College will email you near the beginning of the second term. The College may completely pay for a student’s bus pass if the student lives beyond 0.5 miles of the campus, is studying a full time course (excluding Higher Education courses) and the household is in receipt of an income based benefit. First Bus passes will need to be downloaded on the student’s mobile phone and provide information on: – Transport routes to college – Bus and Train Passes – Free Student Meals (FSM) – College Financial Assistance Scheme – Vulnerable Bursary Scheme Stagecoach bus passes will be posted out to the home address of the student. Both types of passes will need to be scanned when boarding the bus.

COLLEGE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME

Students may be eligible for support from the College’s Financial Assistance Scheme, if they or their household is in receipt of an income based benefit. Once an application form has been completed, and an eligible benefit seen and approved, the college may financially help the student with: – A college-bought bus pass or a contribution towards a train pass

– Essential equipment, clothing, and kit (depending on the course of study) – Specified books relating to the course
