Assessment Your work is assessed individually in tutorial sessions, group discussion and formally by component submissions. Final assessments are moderated by the exam board. Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Mathematics.
Overview This exciting course is perfect for those wishing to explore their creativity in this inspiring, broad and dynamic subject. Textiles is taught in a studio-based environment within the Art Department. We encourage you to be inquisitive, experimental and confident with your ideas. You will be developing your own responses to challenging and stimulating assignments. Trips are organised to see both contemporary and historical exhibitions as part of your research for coursework. Structure Year 1 is workshop-based and you will develop your skills in creating structure, surface pattern, free machine embroidery, dyeing, garment design and making. You will be set assignments that encourage you to combine your skills, recording your processes in sketchbooks and creating inspiring outcomes. Year 2 consists of two main components: – Component one (60%) This component of work consists of a major in-depth contextual and practical based project that enables you to further develop your ideas and interests in Textiles. Your practical work is supported by a minimum of 1,000 words, which can be presented in a variety of ways. You will produce sketchbooks including research work which will be assessed alongside fabric samples leading to a final outcome. – Component two (40%) This component requires you to produce preparatory work in response to set questions, research, experiment, develop ideas and plan a self-directed outcome. You will need to create an informed and competent response within a controlled test environment.
