ART & DESIGN UAL Level 2 Diploma Venue: South Downs Campus Duration: 1 year

– Applying contextual references in art & design – Practical research project in art & design – Surface design Assessment All units are assessed individually, following set deadlines. On completion of this one- year course, you will be awarded an overall grade for the qualification. During each assignment, there is a period of practical workshops that introduce you to a wide range of art techniques and processes, followed by one-to-one help while producing your own work. Progression Students who achieve a Merit grade or above can progress to a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design, Fashion & Clothing or Photography & Graphic Communication, or any other relevant Level 3 qualification. Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English Language or Mathematics and an art subject. Applicants should also bring examples of their recent work, including drawings made from observation and some research and/or written notes about your work to discuss at the interview.

Overview This course is designed to give you new insights into many different aspects of art & design. Through a series of workshops and projects you’ll learn and build upon new and existing skills in a variety of areas while building a creative portfolio. You will work in well-equipped studios and have access to a broad range of media and materials such as glass, clay, paint and photography. You’ll also acquire a greater insight into industry practices through visits to galleries and exhibitions. Importantly, you’ll produce artwork based on specific briefs that will allow you to explore historical and contemporary art practices while analysing the work of others as well. In addition, you’ll have opportunities to improve your day-to-day skills in areas such as IT, helping you prepare for work or Higher Education study. Structure You will produce artwork based on a given brief. Each brief will allow you to explore historical and contemporary art practices, which is lecturer-led, while looking at others’ work. This theory will then be applied to practice, with the creation of your own 2D/3D outcomes.
