MUSIC PERFORMANCE UAL Level 2 Diploma

Venue: South Downs Campus Duration: 1 year

Our rehearsal rooms are equipped with all the kit required to rehearse and perform your favourite music: – PA Systems – Mics – Amps – Keyboards – Drums Just rock up and start to learn tracks in a range of ensembles, from solo acts to full bands. Also, our fantastic AMP Sessions room is a fully equipped performance space for recording or performing original songs or covers. The room has lighting, sound and video equipment ready to go at all times. Writing and performing music is at the heart of what we do throughout your courses here. Assessment You will be continually assessed on a Pass or Fail basis on the first 7 units. The final Unit 8 will be graded on a Pass, Merit, Distinction level. Much of the work is practical in nature but written assignments and presentations are required to support this. There is a big emphasis on research which is excellent preparation for Level 3. There is no final examination. Progression Students who gain at least an overall Merit grade can progress to our Level 3 qualifications. The pathway can then lead to a Level 4 (here at HSDC) or Higher Education if desired. Some students may gain employment in the music industry as a direct result of achieving an overall Merit or Distinction. Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at grade 3. Entry is by audition to demonstrate that you are advanced enough with your instrument/voice to start rehearsing with a band.

Overview This one-year course is designed for

students who are looking to develop their music performance skills for a career in the music industry. Alongside the course you will also study for your Maths and English Functional Skills and/or GCSE qualifications. Structure On this course you will have the opportunity to study a variety of music performance related areas. The UAL Diploma consists of 8 units. Units 1-7 are skillbuilding units that prepare you for unit 8, which is your final major project. Units 1-7 cover: – A range of elements in the development and delivery of a music performance – Roles and responsibilities in the production of a music performance – Listening skills to identify the different musical elements of musical performances Teaching & learning The facilities on our campus feature the latest music industry-standard equipment. They include: – Three Apple Mac (2017 iMac) production suites consisting of more than 20 individual workstations with audio keyboard and Logic X. – Main recording studio consists of Apple Mac Pro (2017), two Raven touch screens, two Universal Audio Apollo 8s, a pair of Genelec 8040 & KRK Rocket 6 studio monitors, designated drum room, vocal booth, bass/guitar room, it also links to rehearsal rooms and the smaller of our two live music venues. – Live music venue with a variety of live audio equipment: Industry standard microphones and DI boxes, PA and monitor speakers and outboard equipment e.g. dbx compressors, lexicon FX.
