– Extended project proposal & extended project Please note all units are mandatory in both years. Teaching & learning You will be taught by music industry professionals who are both qualified lecturers and specialists in their discipline. The course programme uses practical teaching methods to develop essential skills. Classroom and homework activities will help you discover fundamental aspects of the music industry and other music related areas. Students will be required to work independently and within groups. Working with your lecturers you will reflect and contextualise the content within each unit, acknowledging and identifying the evidence which meets the learning outcomes. Assessment You will be continually assessed in all the units on the course. Work is both practical in nature with written assignments required to support this. Evidence is gathered in both written and video form, with end of year units being assessed to give the overall final grade. Progression Many students progress on to Higher Education to study at degree level or onto our UAL Level 4 Professional Development course. Alternatively, you could go straight into the music industry. You may also use the qualification to access other degrees/ employment in areas such as media, film and television, broadcasting, acoustics, events/ music management, music tuition, live sound and other disciplines that are not directly related to music. Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including either English Language or Mathematics. You do not necessarily have to play an instrument, as you could be pursuing a different route within the creative industries. HSDC Prospectus 95
Overview The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Production has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress into the music production, creative and digital industries, as a career or at degree level. Many students may have identified a specific career in the creative industries that they wish to progress into, these include: – Recording engineer – Music producer – Songwriter – Live sound engineer – Events manager AMP (Art Music Media Performance) has a professional studio, three specialist music rehearsal suites, three rooms equipped with Apple Macs running Logic Pro X, plus an acoustically engineered recording and recital room. We have excellent links within the industry, giving you access to seminars and guest speakers. You will leave the academy with the confidence to pursue your own career in the music industry. Structure This course is delivered over two years and will enable you to develop a portfolio of work that could support progression into a range of Higher Education courses. Year one units: – Principles of music performance – Critical listening and music composition – Music industry and professional practice – Critical and contextual music awareness – Music production & performance in context – Preparation for specialist study – Collaborative music project
