Introduction This course will allow you to gain an in depth understanding into Hispanic culture. You will build on your existing knowledge at Spanish GCSE level and will have the opportunity to use Spanish in a variety of contexts. By studying A-Level Spanish, you will learn the language to a very high level and this will give you the opportunity to communicate with over 400 million other Spanish speakers throughout the world.

Aims of the Course

Paper 1 (Listening, Reading and Writing): Aspects of Hispanic society, artistic culture in the Hispanic world, multiculturalism in Hispanic society, aspects of political life in Hispanic society and key grammar.

Paper 2 (Writing): One text and one film or two texts from the list set in the specification, and key grammar.

Paper 3 (Speaking): Individual research project, one of four themes: aspects of Hispanic society, artistic culture in the Hispanic world, multiculturalism in Hispanic society or aspects of political life in Hispanic society

How You Are Assessed

Paper 1 (Listening, Reading and Writing):

Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes, 100 marks, 50% of A-Level

Paper 2 (Writing):

Written exam: 2 hours, 80 marks in total, 20% of A-Level

Paper 3 (Speaking):

Oral exam: 21–23 minutes (including 5 minutes preparation time), 60 marks in total, 30% of A-Level

Links to Future Careers

Learning Spanish at A-Level will be an invaluable skill and such a skill is highly sought after by future employers and universities. The career door will be open to work for a global business company allowing you to travel to Hispanic speaking countries for international business. Spanish is a huge asset in a range of careers such as media, technology and marketing, as well as translation and interpreting.
