time and money spent was worth it (totally). Topics ranged from Unclaimed Property to Post Production Costs to Retirement Planning. The topics were timely and interesting, especially learning about Boudreaux and Thibodeaux! We had great Keynote Speakers, especially Alyce Hoge. Her speech was inspiring and her industry knowledge unsurpassed. The lecturers were attorneys, landmen, Division Order Analysts and financial planners, so we were able to see topics from different perspectives. Thank you SADOA for the Scholarship and good luck to next year’s winner for the Institute being held in San Antonio!

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland announced that the DOI is suspending those leases and all oil and gas activities in the refuge until it can complete “a comprehensive environmental analysis” of the leasing program because the earlier analysis by the Trump administration was marred by “legal deficiencies”. **************************************************** Willow development to proceed In June, the Department of Justice filed a brief in the U.S. District Court for Alaska, indicating that after extensive review, the Bureau of Land Management, Army Corps of Engineers and the Fish and Wildlife Service properly followed environmental laws when approving the ConocoPhillips Willow development in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve-A area. ConocoPhillips plans to develop up to five drill sites and first oil is expected in 2026. ****************************************************

National Niche Federal Government sued over canceled Oil and Gas Leasing In June, Louisiana and 12 other states that sued the Interior Department and the Biden administration were granted a preliminary injunction by a federal judge. North Dakota filed a suit in July claiming that the Department of the Interior (DOI) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) illegally canceled lease auctions in the state. In August, the American Petroleum Institute and 11 other groups filed a lawsuit seeking to reinstate oil and gas lease sales in federal court in the Western District of Louisiana, arguing the government is required by law to hold regular sales. Nine leases that were issued for drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by the U.S. Department of Interior on the last full day Trump was in office have been suspended by the Biden
