Job Description Job Purpose

• Support and coordinate the procurement of energy and utilities; Man- age utilities contracts, energy managers and associated monitoring and recording processes; analyse data and manage the resolution of any discrepancies; • Proactively seek opportunities for external funding to support sustainabil- ity strategy and initiatives. • Liaise and work in partnership with local bodies (local authority, busi- nesses and community groups) to network, share information and devel- op joint initiatives. • Liaise with external and professional bodies to keep up to date with de- velopments in sustainability and environmenta management (e.g. Envi- ronment Agency, other HEI’s) • Develop and maintain cross-departmental links to support the delivery of sustainability plans and initiatives. • Develop and manage systems and processes for recording, monitor- ing and managing utilities consumption and costs; manage associated budgets and budget planning; • Undertake environmental audits and present reports. • Support the Head of Operations in the procurement and supply of utili- ties; manage associated contracts and develop effective monitoring/re - porting systems. • Advise, support, mentor and train Estates’ colleagues to ensure that sus- tainability is embedded across all operations and activities. • Develop and manage a communication plan to promote sustainability and environmental awareness throughout LMU and its stakeholders. • Convene and lead/chair working groups, presentations, workshops, promotional events and other meetings to present, promote and discuss sustainability issues and disseminate information. • Review and input into technical briefs, standards and employer’s re- quirements for refurbishment and new build projects, to ensure that internal and external design teams and contractors have due regard to energy and water consumption and building efficiency. • Organise and present training events to a range of internal and external groups, both virtually and in-person, including the preparation of associ- ated training materials, handouts etc.

Lead and manage the development and implementation of sustainability and environmental strategies and associated policies, procedures and systems. Lead the development of carbon reduction strategies and plans; Work closely and collaboratively with the Head of Operations in the develop- ment and delivery of a Carbon Environmental Management Plan, including the development of carbon and energy management systems targets and corporate KPIs; Lead the process for attaining ISO14001 accreditation. Lead the provision of effective communication to raise awareness of sustain- ability issues and initiatives. Influence cultural and staff/student behavioural change in respect of sustainability including, for example, in energy and water use/reduction, recycling/re-use, waste reduction and other initiatives. Lead the development of the university’s annual sustainability objectives and plans; provide an institutional lead on a range of sustainability initiatives and projects. Provide expert advice on sustainability and environmental issues, legislation, regulations and external standards within Estates and to the wider university community. Deputise for the Head of Operations as required on all environmental and sustainability matters, representing LMU externally as required. Key Areas • Proactively support the university to embed sustainability across all its operations and activities. • Drive innovation and provide a focal point for the development of new ideas for carbon reduction. • Act as the focal point for energy management within LMU. • Lead the drive to integrate and embed environmental and sustainability issues into university policies, services and operations. • Monitor the university’s performance in respect of its carbon footprint, and progress against the Carbon & Environmental Management Plan.
