Getting to Know You: Our New Dockmaster -- Missy Duffy

Missy was born and reared in Boca Raton, FL. She has lived in the BVIs, Bahamas, Connecticut, Nantucket, and South Carolina. She attended FAU as an undergrad majoring in Latin American literature, and earned her M.A. in Philosophy of Literature from the University of South Carolina. As well as English, she speaks Spanish and Italian. Her husband is Evan Duffy, and they are the proud owners of five cats and three bunnies, all rescue pets! They just moved to Goodland, FL, and are looking forward to making new friends there.

Missy Duffy

Missy bring a lot of prior experience to the job, including yachting, sailboat charters, as an instructor for powerboat and sailing, as a 100-ton captain, and was the dockmaster/Waterfront Director at four Clubs. Obviously, her management skills, boating experience, and preventative marina maintenance focus will be much appreciated and utilized. Her days are already quite busy with clean-up, taking transient reservations, dock inspections, planning meetings, and other tasks as needed. In the next year, she would like to see MIYC host a regatta! When not at MIYC, Missy likes to sail, hike, and swim laps. Her favorite vacation spot is the Faroe Islands, and she would like to visit as many of the world’s remote islands as possible. She loves old Rock n’ Roll music, non-fiction Florida history books, and (guilty pleasure) Cadbury Chocolates! Her causes focus on domestic animal rescue (cats and rabbits) and coral reef rehab on the East Coast of Florida and the Florida Keys. Her personal motto is a critical one: “Measure once; cut twice!”
