April 2022 Anchorlines

What a Team! Debbie Rhattigan and Karen Esala From February 22, when Mike Davey left, until March 21, when our new Dockmaster Missy Duffy began, the MIYC was without a dockmaster! Not to worry! Both Debbie and Karen voluntarily stepped up to fill in the void! From Debbie’s perspective, this was an opportunity to get to know and learn

Karen

Debbie

first-hand the ins and outs of marina operations. She jumped right in to assume responsibilities such as scheduling (and re-scheduling due to weather) transients and reciprocals and setting up the various leasing arrangements. She was on the dock to guide boats safely into their slips and then secure the lines, assist with pump-outs, and clean our docks to welcome our guests. Incoming boats usually arrived in the afternoon, on their way to Marathon Key, and then on to Key West. She also came in on Sundays to accommodate FCYC transients. Debbie also was handled the responsibility of transitioning from handwritten scheduling of boats and tasks to implementing our new NorthStar system. Her goal was to make the transition seamless, which she accomplished. Karen stepped in to take over Debbie’s Marina Accounting functions, taking care to not let any of her other accounting tasks drop. She was able to gain an understanding of the “Big Picture,” which includes our daily operations as well as the Marina functions. According to our General Manager Mark, “She was very thorough, and allowed nothing to fall through the cracks. “

If needed, we know we can call on Karen, Debbie, and Chris (MIMA) to fill in.
