gotten in that day. The pathway to glory is by the way of the- cross. 7. The element of world-wide bless ing. At the foot of the mountain were the multitudes to whom .Christ min istered. They point to the d^y when “ the earth shall be full of the knowl edge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Isa. 11:9), and His blessing shall flow to all nations. - - \ Golden Text Illustration M ark 9:7 A big lump of something—a stone supposedly—lay for years in a shal-, low, limpid brook in North Carolina. People passing that way saw only an ugly lump and passed on. A poor man passing one day saw, a heavy lump—a good thing to hold his door ajar—and he took it home. A geologist who stopped at the poor man’s door one day saw a lump of gold—the biggest lump of gold ever found east of the Rockies. . Many people looked u p o n Jesus. Some saw only a Galilean peasant and turned away, Some saw a prophet and stopped to listen. Some' saw the Messiah and worshiped. Some saw the Lamb of God and looked to Him to save them from their sins. There, are people today who see in Jesus simply a perfect Man, and they get. nothing more from Him than the ex ample of His perfect life. Others look ing upon Him see the Son of God, and having no affinity for anything 'that is from heaven, they simply pass by on the other side. Others looking upon Him see the Lamb of God—the divinely chosen sacrifice and Saviour. Realizing that their greatest need is to be saved from their sins, they go to Him for cleansing. When you look at Jesus what do you see? The Father saw the beloved Son.—E. L. Pell. A Happy Secret M ark 9:2 -8 ; 2 P eter 1:16-18 MEMORY VERSE: “Thou hast put gladness in my heart” (Psa. 4:7). APPROACH: Last Week we learned about the man who brought his broth er to the Lord. What was the name of the brother? That is right, “Peter.”- One of the most Wonderful things that could ever happen t o , any one happened to Peter. Do .you want to know what it was? LESSON STORY:
appeared. They were Moses and Eli jah, who had lived on earth years be fore, and they talked w i t h Jesus. Peter said, “Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.” ’¿du see, Peter, James, and John were so surprised and frightened that they really didn’t know what to say! Then a. cloud •overshadowed them and a voice came out of the cloud saying, “This is my beloved Son: hear him.” Suddenly t h e m e n looked around and saw that they were alone with Jesus again, and the beautiful change, or transfiguration, was over. The Lord Jesus told them not to tell any one what they had seen until He had risen from the dead. Years later, Peter wrote about his wonderful experience. Would you like to hear what he said? (Read 2 Peter 1:16-18.) Some day we shall see the Lord Jesus, and He will look like He did on the mountain, when His gar ments became shining and white and beautiful. Object Lesson “T ” T alks and T ells OBJECT: A capital “T.” (Make the “T” by using a piece of white paper 8% x 11 inches. Fold in thirds, mak ing the size 8% x 3 2/3. inches. Fold down 2% inches from the top, mak ing the size 6%. x 3% inches. With this last fold on the top, cut out a capital “T” With top bar % inch deep and upright 1 inch wide. When open, this will make three crosses, joined at the ends of the cross-arms. Color the middle cross red on both sides. One of the outside crosses is black on both'■sides, and the other-black on one side and white on the other. Re fold, ip a rolling fashion, placing the cross which is black on both sides, between the. red cross and the one with a white side. should be facing you. Refold again, making the white capital “T.” ) LESSON: I am wondering whether you can guess what this white “T” represents. It speaks of a very im portant event in the life of Christ. . “The TRANSFIGURATION?", • Yes, you are right. It is,white, re minding us of. the light which shone out from the body of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is more in the “T” than you might at first think. You will re member that on that occasion Moses and Elias talked with .Christ regard ing His death at Jerusaïfem. As I open the “T” and turn it around, it makes a red cross, reminding us of the cross on which He was to die and shed His blood for the sins of the world. This “T” has more in it than the cross which we have seen. As I un fold it further, We find that there, are two black crosses on either side of the red cross. These remind us of 'the thi^es who were crucified with Christ. You perhaps remember the story of how at first both thieves found fault with Christ when crucified. Lat er, one t u r n e d to Christ and asked for mercy. We will fold this black 'cross ovei; the red one, showing how the sins of the one thief were placed on Christ his Saviour. The thief’s cross is now white. When thinking of the Transfigura tion of Christ, let us remember that Moses and Elias talked about His death. And because of His death we shall some day see His glory. 43 A n d he cam e and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. 44 A n d he left them , and w ent aw a y again, and prayed the third time, sa yin g the sam e words. 45 T he n com eth he to his. disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now; and take yo u r rest: behold, the hour is .at hand, and the Son of m an is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let u s be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
