THE K I N G ’ S BUS I NES S

to experience companionship w i t h Christ. Just as birth into an earthly family is necessary b e f o r e earthly companionship can be known, birth into the heavenly family is necessary before heavenly relations can be es tablished. III. REMAIN IN POSITION. 1. “Keep my words” (John 14:23). Christ promises this abiding Presence and companionship to those who keep His words. There must be a knowl edge of His words, before there can be an a d h e r e n c e and faithfulness to them. And here is where our willing ness to spend time with the Word is tested. We cannot be content only with sermons on Sunday, if we truly desire to keep His words and know His companionship. “Search the Scrip tures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39). 2. “Abide in me” (John 15:4). This is the key phrase- for companionship with Christ. The believer who is abid ing in Christ is one who is willing to put off any love of the world that hinders fellowship with Christ (1 John 2:15). Often in our haste and false ideas of true value, we become side tracked, and miss the blessed com panionship He would share with us. “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth: but I have c a l l e d you friends; for all things that I have- heard of my F a t h e r I have made known unto you” (John 15:15).- IV. REJOICE IN FELLOWSHIP. 1. “Jesus himself drew near” (Lk. 24:15). Here in miniature we have the crowning glory of Christian experience. In the vibrant days of youth, “Jesus himself” draws near to give purpose and meaning to life. In the home, at the office, in the school room, and at all points along the pathway of life, the realization of His nearness causes the heart of the 'Christian to rejoice. 2. “He opened "to us the Scriptures” (Lk. 24:32). Do you want the longing of your heart filled to overflowing? Allow Christ to jeveal to you “ in alt the Scriptures the things concerning himself." For the Leader Bring the meeting to a close by challenging the group with the verse, “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them” (John 13:17). APRIL 18,- 1943 TELLING OTHERS OF CHRIST J ohn 1:35-42 By Allison Selway Preparation Announce the meeting as a Chris tian Endeavor Treasure Hunt. Meet one hour early, and after a few min

utes of prayer, ask each member to walk to the home of some friend whom he desires to win to Christ, and invite him to the meeting (the hour will give the friend time to get ready for the meeting). Bring back your treas ures and present Christ, giving an opportunity for decisions at the close. I. FOLLOWING. (35-37). John the Baptist saw and bore wit- . ness to the Lamb of God in such a manner that his disciples, John and Andrew, followed the Lord Jesus rath er than following their teacher. Is the same true of those to whom we intro duce the Lord Jesus? Because of John’s testimony, the two turned from the teacher who could lead them no fur ther, and sought Him who was the Way. They turned from their religion of duty to One who brought life and spirit. II. FELLOWSHIPING (37-39). The new converts followed the Lord Jesus desiring to fellowship with Him, and to learn of the new life. They addressed Him as “Rabbi,” thus plac ing themselves in the position of scholars and indicating their willing ness to learn. ’ So vital were the few hours alone in the Saviour’s presence that the two were bound to Him for life. III. FISHING (40-42). A . promptness to serve followed a saving Experience and a willingness to learn. Those seeking to serve with out personally knowing the Lord Jesus bring discredit to the gospel- and dis appointment to themselves. Andrew went from the Master’s side to the side of his brother. Andrew had been saved; he could now tell. Andrew had been taught; he could now teach. He could become a challenge to others because he had become a companion of Christ. Andrew’s witness implies a previous seeking for the Messiah by Simon and himself. He did not argue nor coax; his testimony was brief an(J* pointed. He merely bore witness of that which he knew, gave the in vitation, and left the result to the Holjr Spirit. Many seem to have a revised version of $he verse,-“My word . . . shall not return unto me void,” " which- reads, “Yqur word shall not return unto you void.” God hits promised to bless His Word, not our arguing or our words of seeming wisdom. The first testing and demonstration of Andrew’s new life was in the home circle. He might have waited to wit ness until he could have done some great service (humanly speaking) for his Lord. But hatl Andrew waited for a larger task, we might never have heard of Peter. Sometimes our zeal in personal witnessing is not as fervent as it appears to be when we are in For Those Who Have Topics
