28. Thy Strength and My Day “I will go in the strength of the Lord” (Psa. 71:16). Give me Thy strength for my day, Lord,. That whereso’er I go, There .shall no danger daunt me And I shall fear no foe; f .: So shall no task o’ercome me, So shall no trial fret, So shall I walk unwearied The path where my feet are set; So shall I find no burden Greater than I can bear, So shall I have a courage Equal to all my care; So shall no grief o’erwhelm me, So shall no wave o’erflow— Give me Thy strength for my day, Lord, Cover my weakness so .. —Annie Johnson Flint 29. Unruffled Spirit “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Pet 5:7). Blessed Lord, restore unto me, and all Thy faithful people everywhere, the quietness of heart, the unruffled spirit, the repose of soul, which Is so essential and yet so difficult In this mad world. Help me to rest my mind in Thee, to enclose my heart in Thy great love, to calm my spirit with Thy Word, and give me perfect confidence for the future.—A London Journalist. 30. Wells of Water “And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and three score and ten palm trees; and they encamped there by the waters” (Ex. 15:27). •There are more Elims In life than Marahs; an 1 we encamp by them. We are not bidden to tarry at the one, but we may spend long blessed days at the other. You say that they will never come to you? Yes, but they will! They come to all tired souls . . . He makes His sheep to lie down in pastures of tender grass, and leads them beside Waters of rest. —F. B. Meyer. 31. Whole Hearted “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart” (Psa. 37:4). Whole-hearted love to God means joy and peace. Why is it that you '4hink -of your childhood days as your happiest days? Simply because they were vour purest days. Who are the happiest persons you know? They are the holiest and purest. .When have you known the purest joy? When you have been longing most to be like Christ. “Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God”—thst’s the joy of heaven, and we can have it this side of the grave as well as in the ages to come. —Gospel Banner.
ness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should hot perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:14, 15). “It is not in our own wounds,” says Vinet, “but in the wounds of Jesu§ that we must put our hands.” And for us there is no merit but the merit of His aton ing sacrifice.—W. Robertson Nicoll. 26. Undefeated “Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee” (Psa. 76:10). When men’s passions are deeply stirred, they do not stand on cere mony, nor do they pay much heed to scruples or conscience. It is well for the follower of Christ to keep that truth in view as he fights the good fight of faith, and it is even more desirable that he should never be un mindful of the fact that evil did its worst against His divine Uord, and ignominiously failed. Make me a captive, Lord, And then I shall be free; Force me to render up my sword, And I shall conq’ror be. —Life of Faith. 27. One Sacrifice “Our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father” (Gal. 1:3, 4).
