today, wondering what life is all about. Then, suddenly God speaks with the assurance of hope. Prob lems faced in the world today are common to all of us. We have a world which has been brought to its knees in frustration and depres sion. I sense it in the faces of those whom I see in places of business. There is a real spark of joy and enthusiasm which somehow is missing. Because God has spoken today He has given me a brand new world view. Because of this I am optimistic as I consider the Lord's great plan. He sent His Son to set in motion His own plan of redemption. Someday there is go ing to be a new heaven and a new earth. I can see myself as a part of God's plan. Outside of that there would be little to live for with no real hope for existence. In the darkness of that 400 years between the Old and the NewTes taments, when God seemed not to speak and the heavens were as brass, there was no new revelation. Men sat in hopelessness. The in carnation, like a flash of lightning in the midnight sky, awakened those shepherds. He came from heaven's glory to a little manger in Bethlehem. I see in Christmas the great act of God, moving into this world in the Person of His own Son, giving us the final word about His great example of what the world needs today. It is the greatest act of love. This world is filled with bitterness and hatred today. Bullets fly, the crime rate soars, man shows his in humanity toward man. A fact worth noting is that the Bible never really gives us a dictionary definition of love. Rather it presents many ex amples of love. As the supreme Page 29

Is He your Saviour, too? He can meet your greatest need now and eternally. Trust in this blessed Sav iour so that you will know a true Christmas throughout all the eter nal ages. One of the most unusual I saw advertised is a so-called exact rep lica of Noah's ark already filled with animals. The price tag makes it even more ridiculous. Since it takes two years to build, should you be interested, you will have to get in your request quite early! Human gifts can be rather im practical, can they not? Not so with God's unspeakable treasure made available to us through the Lord Jesus Christ. Cod intervened in history, sending His own Son into the world for our redemption. It was on the Palestinian hillside that the angels made the tremendous pronouncements concerning the Saviour's birth to those shepherds. God intervened in history. How thrilling to know that the Lord can speak to us today as well. When the Word of God is preached and the Holy Spirit bathes that Word with His own presence something tremendous takes place. How sad that somehow, in the lives of many people, God is strangely silent. Put yourself in the place of those shepherds. They were going about their menial tasks, as we might do
