Horace Knowles’ s ownership inscription to front past- edown. [40290] The contents of this sketchbook consist chiefly of preparatory or rough drawings for projects Knowles worked on in the early 1940s. There are three drawings of St. George and the Dragon, six illustrations for sto- ries of elves and fairies, a couple of these on tracing paper and laid in, and a number of anatomical studies, including an image of three female nudes. Includes the bookplate Knowles designed for the politician Gervais Rentoul to the rear pastedown.
