Cowslips And Kingcups COLE, Charlotte Druitt; KNOWLES, Horace J. Knowles’s style in his first post-war commission from Methuen is notably developed from his earlier published work, and one starts to see the dashed outlines and fairy wings and long elegantly drawn trees that later become trademark in his fairy illustrations. Cole’s fairy poetry proves to be the perfect impetus for developing this style, with ample opportunity to draw bands of winged fairies alongside animals, wooded glades, and castles in the sky. 16. Each of the five full page drawings (approx 40cm x 29cm) are signed and dated by Knowles. One page of vignettes and illustrations in the text.
