The Land Of Goodness Knows Where KNOWLES, Horace J.; PEDLEY, MURIEL The first major commission for Knowles from George Newnes, for whom he would draw hundreds of illustrations over the following thirty years, was Muriel Pedley’s Alice In Wonderland-inspired The Land Of Goodness Knows Where. Drawn towards the end of the long period while he was working on Peeps Into Fairyland , his dashed mountains and spindly fairies neatly foreshad- ow the publication of his great work the following year. 22. Inscribed To The Artist’s Wife 21. The Land Of Goodness Knows Where George Newnes Ltd., [1923] . First edition. 8vo. Salmon pink cloth lettered in black. In- scribed by Knowles to his wife on the front pastedown “To My Laurie Girl Christmas 1923”. Colour frontis, eight full page black and white illustrations and eleven drawings in the text, by Horace Knowles. A very good copy. [32952]
