Horace J. Knowles: Beyond Fairyland

The Land Of Far Beyond KNOWLES, Horace J.; BLYTON, Enid The Land Of Far Beyond is Enid Blyton’s Pilgrim’s Progress, following the ad- ventures of three children as they travel from the City of Turmoil to the Land Of Far Beyond. Knowles contributed twenty-one pen and ink drawings for the book, all of which delighted Blyton, as she wrote to him in September 1942: “Thank you very much for your letter & for sending me the rough for the cover, which I now return - I like it immensely - it is just the right design for this particular book. I knew you would interpret all my ideas to perfection. “I have seen the illustrations and I meant to write and congratulate you. You have done them beautifully... I am so very pleased you managed to do the book for me and I do thank you for all the care and trouble you have taken in doing such beautiful illustrations... “You may be sure that as soon as I have another book suitable for you I’ll send it! You know how much I admire your craftsmanship and love your drawings, and I only wish I wrote more books like The Land Of Far Beyond.”
