A HOME RUN EVENT —
An Evening to Remember on the Sky Deck!
“Take me out to the ball game; take me out with the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack; I don’t care if I never get back …” For many, baseball is an enjoyable tradition. Whether you played as a child; have memories of visiting the ballpark with your parents, siblings, other family members, or friends; or attending opening day every year, baseball is one of the greatest sports in America. The ballpark is a place everyone can “have a ball” while strengthening bonds with family and friends and creating new memories. Thus, we are thrilled to announce our very first Family and Friends Night at 121 Financial Ballpark, home of our minor league team, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp! Join us on the Sky Deck on Thursday, May 11, 2023, to cheer our team on together. Whether or not you are a big baseball fan, there is something for everyone. We will meet, greet, watch the game, and eat! There will be plenty of food for everyone, buffet style! We hope this is enough notice for you to reach out to your family (parents, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews) and friends to invite them to join us while we mingle, munch on some Cracker Jack, and continue to build upon traditions while creating some amazing new memories. Plus, if you have family or friends a few hours away, this is a great excuse to bring them to Jacksonville for a springtime visit!
Think back to the friends you made in your younger years. Maybe you played baseball in elementary, middle, or high school, or enjoyed watching together and cheering from
the stands! Perhaps you haven’t seen those friends for quite some time — what better way to reconnect over a
shared interest than this fun Family and Friends baseball outing! Common interests are the glue that keep friendships together and renewable, and this event is one for all generations to enjoy! To welcome everyone to our family, we encourage you to reach out to your friends, coworkers, neighbors, or someone you think might enjoy meeting our Wolf Retirement team. We are also inviting some of our previous Coach’s Corner speakers to join us, giving you an awesome opportunity to speak with them face to face. Next month, let’s get our families together for a home run evening! Your family is our family. Your friends are our friends. After all, an important foundational and core principle of our motto is “building lifelong friendships and partnerships,” and that’s what family is all about. We consider friendships to be “chosen family” and look forward to meeting everyone at this fun event! Please see Page 3 of this newsletter for more details and how to RSVP! We can’t wait to have you with us as we watch our Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp strike out the Norfolk Tides. Come hungry and ready to cheer. See you on the Sky Deck!
In this article, we mention younger generations. I have a thought for you to mull over. When it comes to saving for a child’s college education or retirement, is one more of a priority than the other?

We will discuss this further in next month’s newsletter! Stay tuned!

FLY A KITE LIKE A PRO
3 Expert Tips and Tricks
Flying a kite is a quintessential spring activity, especially for children. But if you struggled to keep your kite in the air as a kid, you’re not alone. Fortunately, you can use a few simple tricks to significantly improve your skills — and help your child become the best kite-flier on the block. Find the right spot. Hopefully, it goes without saying that you shouldn’t fly kites near power lines. Flying it near trees and cars is also a bad idea. It’s best to have at least a quarter-mile open space around you for safety and the best wind conditions. Beaches, empty sports fields, and parks with wide open areas are the perfect places to get your kite airborne. Have the wind at your back. Literally! This position will allow you to watch your kite as it ascends into the air. On a sufficiently windy day, simply holding the kite up by its lowest point and letting go as you unspool your string will be enough to launch it into the sky. When it’s not windy enough for your kite to take flight, try a long-line launch by unspooling about 50 feet of string in a straight line and then taking off running. Remember that kite-flying simply won’t work on some days. If your kite keeps crashing tail first, it may indicate too little wind, while a head-first kite fall may mean too strong a breeze.
Keep it tight. Launching your kite is usually the trickiest part of the process, but keeping it aloft isn’t always straightforward. To ensure your kite stays in the air, you must retain tension on the string — but not too much. It’s time to reel out some of the line when the kite begins to tug. But too much string can weigh down your kite and bring it back to earth. When your line starts to slack, slowly spool it in until it feels taut. Keep your eyes on your kite and your mind on the reel, and you’ll be flying like a pro in no time.
Gwen and Scott are clients here at Wolf Retirement who recently left the Sunshine State to relocate to a home right outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to embrace one of their favorite hobbies: hiking! “Here, you get all four seasons, and even winter hiking is a blast,” Gwen tells us. For all of us who would like to visit this gorgeous national park and hike some incredibly beautiful trails, this adventurous couple has prepared a list of their favorite lodges in the Great Smoky Mountains. LeConte Lodge, Tennessee This hike-in, hike-out lodge is only accessible on foot! There are seven or eight trails leading to the lodge, but the shortest hike, Alum Cave Trail, is roughly 10.5 miles round trip with some breathtaking views along the way. LeConte Lodge operates off a lottery system to book reservations (the first time Gwen and Scott tried to book a stay, it took them five years). The cabins are lit by candlelight and are super cozy. Charit Creek Lodge Charit Creek Lodge in Jamestown, TN, is also only accessible via hiking, but this trail is only about 1 1/2 miles long. Unlike some of the other lodges, they have a community shower room! The lodge serves gourmet breakfast and dinner and has gorgeous views as the cabins and bunkhouses back up to a stream. If you opt to stay in a cabin, you’ll have your very own wood-burning fireplace. Hike Inn Located in Georgia close to the beginning of the Appalachian Trail, the Hike Inn is a “green lodge,” which means that whatever you bring into the park, you must take back out with you — no trash gets left behind! Gwen and Scott visited on many Thanksgivings when their family lived in Florida. They’d hike all day long and take in some magnificent scenery. A Hiker’s Guide to the Smoky Mountains IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The Hike Inn serves up a family-style dinner, then breakfast the next day. The Swag Nestled in North Carolina, The Swag recently jumped to the top of Gwen and Scott’s list of favorites. Last year, they stayed there for their 40th wedding anniversary. Every guest is greeted with a glass of wine and pampered throughout their entire stay. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the most beautiful and nurturing of environments, The Swag is the place to go! Thank you so much, Gwen and Scott, for sharing these special places with all of us. Your actual experiences definitely “heighten” the recommendations for terrific places to stay while visiting and exploring the wonders of the Great Smoky Mountains!

Top 3 Extended Stay Destinations PAGE 4
Top 3 Vacation Destinations for a Longer Stay ALL ABOARD THE EXTENDED VACATION TREND
The pandemic slowed us down. Over the past few years, we collectively took fewer vacations, boarded fewer cruise ships, and avoided airports. However, many studies and reports show that now, more than ever, Americans are taking longer vacations! Why might this be, and what are some of the greatest destinations for an extended stay? According to Amex Travel’s 2022 Global Travel Trend Report, 55% of vacationers are interested in taking longer trips because they can work remotely. The trend of swapping homes is also on the rise. HomeExchange’s website reports that home exchanges of two weeks or more increased by 13% in January-May last year. According to Travel Pulse, 26% of people opt to take a trip that exceeds 10 days. If you are interested in taking a more extended vacation, whether it’s because your job went remote, you lost out on travel
time in 2020-2022, or you saved on gas money while working from home, here are some great destinations that support a longer stay. Visit the national parks. There is no better way to connect with nature than to tour the national parks. Several epic national park road trips could allow you to pack in a dozen or more of these natural gems in just a couple of weeks! Many national parks also accommodate RVs for
comfort and convenience. Drive the California coast.
Hop aboard a cruise. A cruise is one of the best ways to see many destinations in one trip. You could visit several countries in just two weeks, stopping in different ports to explore! On a cruise, you could see the Caribbean one day and wake up somewhere completely different the next day with a new adventure ahead!
A trip up and down the California coast never disappoints. With so many great places to stop and breathtaking views to absorb, you’ll need at least two weeks to experience them properly. You’ll want to explore the Redwood National Forest, the Lost Coast, Pebble Beach, Monterey Bay, Half Moon Bay, Big Sur, Venice Beach, and many more!
