Executive Summary

Information on the NBI Partnership NBI Partnership Ltd (The Partnership) is owned by the John Innes Centre, Earlham Institute, The Sainsbury Laboratory and Quadram Institute Bioscience. The Partnership provides non-scientific services to each of the owner institutions, supporting their internationally renowned scientific research. The Partnership employs around 135 staff to cater for the needs of approximately 1100 Research Staff, Students and Visiting workers, who are all located in close proximity on the Norwich Research Park. The Facilities Team Facilities provide support to the John Innes Centre, Earlham Institute and The Sainsbury Laboratory. The Head of Facilities leads a team of 45 and their direct reports include a soft facilities manager, a project and contracts manager and a mechanical and electrical manager. The supported Institutes The John Innes Centre (JIC) [http://www.jic.ac.uk/] is a world leading centre of excellence in plant science, research, genetics and microbiology. The JIC’s research supports developments in the areas of food security, agriculture, healthy foods and the production of complex clinically-valuable molecules derived from plants and microbes.

The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) [http://www.tsl.ac.uk ] is also world-leading, working on the science of plant-microbe interactions to address improvements to plant health, agriculture and food security. The Earlham Institute (EI) [http://www.earlham. ac.uk] is internationally recognised for research focused on exploring living systems by applying computational science and biotechnology with the strategic properties of agriculture and food security, industrial biotechnology, bioenergy and bioscience for health. The John Innes Centre and Earlham Institute are strategically funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and The Sainsbury Laboratory is strategically funded by the Gatsby Foundation. The JIC and TSL hope to secure funding for the development of a new 30,000 sqm research facility for the JIC and TSL at the Norwich Research Park. This is an exciting time for the internationally-recognised research institutes as they bring together their vision for their Next Generation Infrastructure. Collectively the institutes have a site foot print of 22 acres, with major plant facilities and dedicated science facilities including 5000 sqm of glasshouse and growth rooms.
