SUNDAY IS A FUN SKATE DAY
HAWKESBURY LEGION CONTRIBUTES TO THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER
The Hawkesbury Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is organizing its Pink Gala Fundraiser for Breast Cancer on Saturday, February 2. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. and the dinner will be at 7 p.m., followed by entertainment by Gerry Courville. A silent auction is also planned during the evening. All proceeds will go to breast cancer research. The event is officially sold out. However, the Legion is still accepting donations, either monetary or items to be sold at the auction. Skaters, young and old, warmed up outside on a chilly Sunday afternoon with a few rounds of Bulldog tag and other games on the ice, at the outdoor rink at the Old Mill Park in Hawkesbury. The Old Mill Park Parents Committee/Comité des parents du Parc Old Mill organized a Chili Skate event at the neighbourhood park, January 27, with skaters enjoying spicy chili or hot stew in between their sessions on the rink. —Gregg Chamberlain COUGARS ENJOY ANOTHER WINNING WEEKEND

The Vankleek Hill Cougars enjoyed a winning weekend for the end of their January game schedule. The Cougars beat the Gatineau Hull-Volant 7-2 at home Saturday night then went over to Clarence Creek Sunday afternoon and took the Castors down 7-4. The Cougars are tied for second with the South Grenville Rangers in the National Capital Junior Hockey League standings, going into the February game schedule. The Cougars host the Morrisburg Lions Saturday night over the February 2 weekend. —photo Gregg Chamberlain
