Desert Mountain Charter SELPA Policies and Procedures

Policy – Category 2000 (Administration) BP 2007 – Public Participation

It shall be the policy of the Desert Mountain Charter Special Education Local Plan Area (DMCS) that public hearings, adequate notices of the hearings, and an opportunity for comment available to the general public, including individuals with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities, are held prior to the adoption of any policies and/or regulations needed to comply with Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Per the DMCS Local Plan, the California Association of Health and Education Linked Professions, Joint Powers Authority (CAHELP JPA) Governance Council is responsible for approval of policy for special education programs and services that relate to the DMCS. Policies governing the DMCS are adopted by the CAHELP JPA and included as part of the Local Plan. Input may be received from parents, staff, public and nonpublic agencies, and members of the public at large. It is the practice that policies are presented to the DMCS Executive Council for review then brought back for revision, if recommended, then presented to the CAHELP JPA Governance Council for review and final approval and adoption. Charter Local Education Agencies (LEAs) will have the policies available for review and comment by the public, parents of children with disabilities, or individuals with disabilities.
