Retired Dallas Fire Fighter and Paramedic Leads His Live Music Band

BY AARON S. WILLIAMS

I n July 2024, the David Whiteman Band performed two nights at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® 71st Boule held in Dallas, TX. For over two decades, the David Whiteman Band has entertained crowds of all sizes, ages, musical tastes, and demographics with live musical performances in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area and vari- ous other cities. Led by bandleader David Whiteman (Zeta Upsilon 1988), a retired Dallas firefighter and paramedic, the band takes pride in keeping the “Live” in “Live Music,” performing its entire show without the need for pre-recorded music or “backing tracks.” The David Whiteman Band, for- merly known as David Whiteman and the King David Band, primarily performs at club/music venues, large weddings, corporate events,

conventions, musical festivals, bar mitzvahs, quinceaneras, and large birthday parties. To meet the demands of playing in front of different audi- ences and venues, the band plays multiple genres, including current Top 40, R&B, Funk, Disco, Rock, Latin, Country, and Jazz. The band performs music from artists such as Prince, Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Queen, The Time, Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder, Ohio Players, Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, Drake, Lizzo, Cardi B, and Beyoncé.

The band has opened for Johnny Gill, Lenny Williams, and Con Funk Shun. They have also performed at music festivals where they prepped the crowd for the Temptations, the Dramatics, the Stylistics, the Whis- pers, Marion Meadows, Najee, and Norman Brown. The band showcases phenomenal singers, an electric and interactive five-piece horn section, and a very experienced rhythm section to have their audience entertained and dancing.
