Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Jackson L. Davis, III 1944-2024 Flight Surgeon, Urologist, U.S. Air Force

A beloved commu- retired Brigadier General Dr. Jackson L. Davis III (Xi 1965) entered the Chapter Invisible at the Washington Hospital Center surrounded by his family on Monday, April 15, 2024. Jackson Lee Davis III nity member and a respected urologist, was born in Washington, DC, on August 11, 1944, at Freedmen’s Hospital to the late Jackson Jr. and Alicia (née Gunn) Davis. Davis attended public schools in the District of Columbia before entering Howard University (HU) in 1962. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force in 1966 upon completion of the HU’s Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. In 1970, He earned an M.D. from Howard University College of Medicine and completed his internship at Freedmen’s Hospital from 1970 to 1971. After complet- ing his internship, he entered Active Duty and began his military career as a general medical officer, at Bolling

Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. In June 1974, he became a flight medical officer and clinic commander in the United States Air Force (USAF) Clinic, Tainan Air Base, Tainan, Taiwan. His last active duty assignment was as chief, of aeromedical services at Malcolm Grow Medical Center, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Upon honorable discharge from active duty, he performed his Urology Resi- dency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., from 1975 to 1979. As a former Chief Flight Surgeon in the ANG, he has more than 800 flight hours on aircraft such as the F-4, KC-135A, P-3, C-130, C-141A, C-9, C-21A, and C-22. Some of his major assignments include

Squadron Flight Surgeon, 459th Tactical Hospital, Andrews Air Force Base; Hospital Commander, 910th Tactical Hospital, Youngstown, Ohio; Hos- pital Commander, 113th Tactical Hospital, Andrews Air Force Base; State Air Surgeon, Headquarters, District of Columbia Air National Guard, Wash- ington, D.C.; Air National Guard Assistant to the Command Surgeon, Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. A partial list of his medals and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commenda- tion Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Organizational

Excellence Award with one oak leaf cluster. A Life Membership with Kappa Alpha Psi, Davis was also a member of the National Medical Associa- tion (NMA) where he has served as past Chair of the Aerospace Military Medi- cine and Urology Sections. General Davis retired from the Air Force in November 2001. He was in private practice, spe- cializing in occupational medicine, and was the Med- ical Director at Northside Medical Services Corpora- tion in Washington, D.C. Brother Jackson L. Davis, III is survived by wife Nadine E. Journiette-Davis; children (Jackson IV and Kimberly); three grand- children (Jackson V, Gayle Scout and Bella). ♦
