The Common Cents Program conducts financial workshops for pre-college students interested in learning about financial markets or are planning to study business and finance in college. The program has three main goals: 1. Help students make informed personal financial decisions and prepare them to manage their finances as adults 2. Teach investing basics that will improve student’s understanding of financial markets and financial assets from a global perspective 3. Educate students regarding innovations in the financial industry such as ESG investing, FinTech, and Cryptocurrency Common Cents Program was founded by Jim Gannon, Certified Financial Education Instructor, in 2015 and he continues to serve as the program’s instructor. Jim founded the Common Cents Program because it is his desire to embark on a new path, working to improve financial literacy among teenagers. The high school student workshop, Mastering the Markets , is a one-week program that highlights the importance of savings, understanding how borrowing works, teaches basics of stock & bonds investment & valuation analysis, and many more important topics. The workshop includes industry guest speakers and a field trip to a financial institution. All students receive a certificate at the completion of the program. Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business offers three unique summer programs designed specifically for high school students. In just a few days, you can get a firsthand idea of what it’s like to study business in college. Our goal is to connect students to these programs who are excited about business. The NYC Business Insider Program (June 22-26, 2020) is a one week program designed to immerse rising high school juniors and seniors in the commercial center of New York City. You will be exposed to different areas of business daily and have the opportunity to learn about different career paths and experiences within each industry from business professionals. Participating students will benefit from morning class sessions with top faculty from Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business, lunch discussions with our undergrads, and afternoon site visits to prominent New York City businesses. The College of New Jersey Summer Programs allow current, prospective, and visiting students the opportunity to take courses outside of the regular academic year. Courses are offered in a variety of formats including on campus, blended, online, and travel. Each option allows students who are looking to fulfill liberal learning requirements, advance in their major, or take a course for personal
interest to take summer courses at a preferred pace with varied options. Courses are offered by most schools and departments. Currently matriculated attending TCNJ students can register for summer courses directly within PAWS. Summer registration starts in November as part of the spring registration window and continues throughout the spring semester. Visiting students who are interested in a summer course on our campus should complete a visiting student registration request form on our summer website. Visiting students are encouraged to submit a registration request form early in order to secure a seat in their desired course. Landmark College began offering summer programs in 2002 as a short-term alternative to its successful undergraduate model of teaching students with learning differences, such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism, or executive function challenges. The shorter programs also provided an opportunity for students who did not have an officially diagnosed learning difference to learn skills and strategies that better prepared them for college life.
Today, Landmark College summer programs provide opportunities to a wide range of students. In addition, summer programs are offered at satellite locations on the campus of UC- Berkeley and in partnership with the Johnson & Wales University Denver campus. All programs enable students
to identify their learning strengths and differences, teaching them specific strategies to be successful in formal academic settings and grow personally in an intentional and supportive community.
