Situated in North Melbourne, this architect designed apartment development by Clare Cousins architects, is a sympathetic addition to a tree-lined street with a number of historic Victorian homes. With it’s red-brick façade, Shiel St offers residents a high quality, anchored building that speaks to the neighbourhood while offering a contemporary interior design with generous personal and communal spaces to enjoy. A rooftop garden with barbeque, dining tables and kitchen garden invites neighbourly interaction, as do the generous corridors and lobby and other break out spaces including a common room for tenant activities with adjoining outdoor terrace. Built by Buxton Construction, Housing Choices acquired the site with an existing permit and redesigned the proposal, incorporating our design guidelines to maximise amenity for residents, with input from the City of Melbourne, office of the Victorian Architect and the local North Melbourne community. All dwellings are designed to Livable Housing Australia’s Silver Level, 5 Star Green Star and 7 Star NatHERS ratings.
