Scholarships Awarded at Student Research Symposium
More than 130 students shared their academic, creative, and professional work Dec. 4 at the Missouri Valley College Student Research Symposium. This was the first symposium highlighted by the presentation of four $500 academic scholarships to the Excellence in Student Research winners.Top prizes went to: Felipe Souza and Raphael Battini for “Sensory Rooms;” Sage Carter for “Irish Astronomy: Analyzing the Ancient Irish Passage Tombs;” Shane Rodriguez for “Logo Branding Process;” and Alexis Livingston for “Diabetic Ketoacidosis: Utilizing the Anion Gap for Treatment.”. President Joe Parisi gave kudos to the winners, and also stated he appreciated the hard work of the event’s 25 faculty and staff volunteers.
Accounting Program Spreads Holiday Cheer
MVC’s Accounting Program spread some holiday cheer this week by filling Christmas stockings for students and the Whiteman Air Force Base 509th Support Squadron. The student stockings were handed out Tuesday evening at the Bistro by our Alumni Board.
New Hands-On Spring Course: Voices of Arrow Rock Production Dr. Michael Kateman, an adjunct professor in communication studies, has developed an experiential and service learning course crossing the disciplines of theatre, history, communication studies, English, business, and non-profit management. “As creator and producer of Voices of ArrowRock , I am ecstatic to partner with the college in offering students who are interested in playwriting, marketing, strategic communications, theatre production and management, fundraising, and grant-writing (this) hands-on experience,” said Kateman. The course is INDS 349-01 and will be Tuesday-Thursday from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Voices of Arrow Rock is a readers theatre series that brings to life underrepresented voices of the historic village’s past.
