April 2025 Volume 5 Edition 9

APRIL 2025 | VOLUME 5 | EDITION 9

April! It's incredible to think that we have only one month remaining before we conclude the 2024-2025 school year! This season is filled with excitement as the Spring weather becomes more prevalent, outdoor events and athletics are in full swing, and we get ready for the grand finale, Graduation. A special celebration is also taking place to honor our Employees of the Year and the retiring staff from PUHSD who are starting a new chapter in their lives. While we will certainly miss their presence and contributions to our District, we are truly thrilled for them and grateful for the lasting impact they have made on our campuses. Each of these remarkable individuals, along with those reaching a years-of-service milestone, will be recognized during our May Board Meeting. Other 'celebratory' events in April focus on libraries, the theme for this month's podcast. The Learning Commons (Libraries) are fantastic spaces on our campuses. April is recognized as "School Library Month," and April 16th marks National Librarian Day. Be sure to stop by and give a shout-out to our incredible staff who manage the Learning Commons. Another celebration is dedicated to our amazing Administrative Professionals! We invite you to join us in expressing gratitude to the support staff across our campuses. They are the backbone of our operations, the unsung heroes, and the behind-the-scenes individuals who ensure everything runs smoothly.

There is much to celebrate and numerous individuals to acknowledge and express gratitude to for their steadfast commitment and dedication to our students.

Many schools in our District have recently undergone another (scheduled) WASC Accreditation Visit. Here’s a brief overview of the reasons we prioritize this process and its significance for our schools. This endeavor represents a substantial commitment from our campus staff, and we sincerely value their efforts, contributions, and engagement.

All of our schools, comprehensive, alternative education and our adult school have been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

Here are just a few of the reasons why WASC accreditation is important to the community and our students:

Assures a school’s community and stakeholders that the school’s purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable education program — a trustworthy institution for student learning;

Validates the integrity of the school’s program and transcripts;

Facilitates transfer of credits to other English-speaking schools — critical for college/university acceptance worldwide;

Provides a peer-reviewed process for regularly examining programs, procedures, and data around school goals and student learning through data analysis, reflection, inquiry, and dialogue;

Builds a professional culture to support the schoolwide action plan;

Fosters the continuous improvement of the school’s programs and operations to support student learning.

It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries—school, public, academic, and special—participate.
