Speaker Addresses Artificial Intelligence in Higher Ed Artificial Intelligence expert Dr. James Hutson visited campus Feb. 28 as the first guest of the President’s Speaker Series. Dr. Hutson invited faculty members to “begin playing” with AI, include AI policies in syllabi, and most importantly have discussions in class on the ethics of using AI tools. Hutson, on the faculty at Lindenwood University, gave a detailed presentation on AI and Gen Z, and answered numerous questions, offering to follow up with many MVC faculty members. President Parisi offers the speaker series as a professional development opportunity for faculty. He wants to challenge minds, engage our academic community, and welcome thought leaders to campus.
New Master’s Degree Announced Missouri Valley College has been notified by the Higher Learning Commission’s Institutional Actions Council that it has approved the college’s request to offer a Master of Arts degree in Education. This degree will allow local teachers to get their master’s from a trusted neighbor and prepare for the next step in their career. We’re already communicating with our alumni about the opportunity, as well as Orange Carpet partners and school districts across Missouri.
Deadline for Purple Patch Submissions is March 15 Please spread the word to students that the deadline for submissions for MVC’s literary and arts Journal Purple Patch in March 15. Students are invited to submit original artwork and writing, including poetry, short stories, academic essays, creative nonfiction, and hybrid works. Submissions should be emailed to purplepatch@moval.edu as .doc or .pdf attachments. Please remind students that the editorial board gives annual Editor’s Choice Awards, with a cash prize for best poem, best visual artwork, and best prose genres. Awards will be presented at the Student Research Symposium.
Accounting Program Hosts Examiners in Class MVC’s Accounting Program on Thursday welcomed senior bank examiner Jeff Kearns and review examiner Nick Bestgen from the Missouri Department of Finance.
Art Song Class Offered 2 nd Eight Weeks Please tell your students about this 2nd 8-week course option available this semester. This course would be especially helpful for students who may need to strategically withdraw from another class or may be a few hours short of their graduation requirement. MUSC-149-01 ST: Art Song is a 3-credit hour online course that will be taught by Jeremy Wagner and is open for enrollment now (to begin March 11). .
